Benedict Aaron Rodney had a terrible life for eighteen years.

His parents died, leaving him with his Uncle Skippy Rodney. Skippy was a bust-out drunk who could barely take care of himself. After being given a child he didn't want, he took out the anger he had on the child.

If that wasn't enough for someone to deal with, things got worse for him. His one-time friends got tired of him, making him a target of their boredom and anger. This left the growing child with no safe haven—at school or home, someone was hurting him every day.

Then, something miraculous happened: the Heavens stepped in, granting him a Sphere. Spontaneous manifestation of a Sphere was very rare, but it happened on occasion. Benedict, while being beaten unconscious and having his bones broken, was suddenly the Holder of a Sphere of Regeneration.

A passerby broke up the attack on Benedict and got him whisked off to a clinic to see a Healer. The Healer not only found his newest injuries completely repaired, but also the long list of injuries Benedict had endured throughout his life. That examination turned up the fact that Benedict now had a Sphere and, as such, was bound for the Academy to learn how to deal with his new life.

He was shown around by Agatha, his psychiatrist. She'd help him learn the things that his school had never told him about Holders. It was also on his first day that he'd met Atropos Rosaria Foxglove, his roommate, who had her own problems.

He'd have to learn to coexist with a roommate who disliked him, all while trying to find his new place as a Holder of a Sphere. One of the few non-elite students, he would have an uphill climb. Benedict never backed down from a fight or pain, and he wasn't about to start now.

He warned us about it being a very slow burn harem and it really is but in a good way. Similar to aithers revival it’s very focused on the training and daily life aspect with splashes of action. Can’t wait for book 2.

Little slow but a good first book

Excellent story build, back stories, and performance! Loved the care he took not to get too graphic with the MC’s backstory, but enough to allow your imagination to fill in the blanks. Nothing felt rushed with this first book. I’m very much looking forward to the series!

Excellent! Daniel and Andrea strike AGAIN!

I genuinely don't have any complaints with this book. I typically can find something, but this was just so well rounded. It can be sad enough to make me tear up one moment; than I'll be laughing like an idiot the next. It is honestly wholesome as well: how the characters work through their trauma together.

Just Amazing

Mr. Schinhoven has definitely outdone himself with the start of this series. Unlike many others who have also provided a great first book and the story tends to die off by the second or third, I have not been disappointed with his work and have purchased all of his books on audible.

When combined with the awesome Andrea Parsneau, this series is going to be another one to follow. The only thing that was left out of this one that makes the other books she has done is my favorite of all of her works: BLOOPERS. Hey Andy where the **** is the bloopers? Even my wife was disappointed that this one didn’t have any.

Another awesome start

Enjoyed plot, the characters and their developments are great, they keep you wanting to keep listening to the book. Can't wait for the next one.

very entertaining

As always an excellent and haheart warming story. The focus is mostly on interpersonal interaction and two badly broken people working together to find there rough and broken edges match up and help each other feal. If you're hesitating on this book give it a chance.

Andrea always a star, so nothing suprising there but sad about no bloopers.
Really like the power system for this story a lot. Structured enough to have a solid framework for power but loose enough to provide freedom for fun interactions in powersets.
Bloodline mystery is also fun to geuss about. I'm thinking Tokay Gecko, they are thought to bring good luck, be the descendants of dragon (that part about him being very into all that chaotic world loot and dragons being greedy), also the line about him being a sticky footed Gecko would have some fun irony, maybe he can see the future one day.... if I'm right at least.

Very excited this series is so good after BW wrapping up

Fantastic Beginning

This book seemed similar to another of his series called dungeon walkers. Different worlds but similar characters set ups. It feels like the book will be a slow burn slice of fantasy life. While keeping a keen attention to relationship building.

The antagonist in this story you can see from a mile away with things getting summed up way to neatly. Even with a looming threat in the future. It felt a little lacking. That is my only gripe. … other than lack of spice. I just hope the author will not fade to black when the time comes. That always kills the series for me. It’s like I’m invested for this long so tell me about the prize in detail.

If I go by the other works from this author I think it won’t disappoint

I will read the next.

Edit: second book is also spice-less. It just a big rooster tease.

Overall good book. No spice like his others. Maybe in the future.

like this author and book. It’s a great story of the underdog rising to the top.
