This Story Is Seductive

Publisher's Summary

Eager to find her place in the world and understand the frightening gifts she's been born with, Jessalyne Brandborn leaves her sheltered life to become apprentice to the most powerful sorceress in Shaldar. She hires Ertemis, the deadliest man in the realm, to get there.

With the Legion's bounty on his head, dark elf Ertemis is reluctant to escort Jessalyne but needs the money she offers - especially if he's ever to find out who his father is. On the way, he discovers benefits to Jessalyne's naiveté; she treats him like an equal, not an outlaw.

Swayed by Ertemis' gruff charm, Jessalyne starts to trust him and her emotional walls begin to crumble.

Little do they know that within them lies the hope of the dying elven race, the renewal of Shaldar's beleaguered kingdom and an incredible chance at love. If they don't kill each other first.

But it

This was actually an impulse buy that turned out to be an excellent story and narrator. It's nice to finally listen to a story that isn't completely caught up with graphic sex every other chapter. The author actually concentrated on building the romance and relationship of the main characters . The sexual tension is definitely there but unlike other stories I have listened to lately it's a romance not erotica. I was able to listen to the entire book with out skipping past the literary porn. I'm definitely going to look into more from this author.

Great Story!

Kristen Painter makes me want more and more of her characters once again! Heart of Fire has the perfect amount of romance vs villains. She ties it all up with history between secondary characters giving us a double happily ever after!

I love a Painter/Harrison combo!

I really enjoyed this story. It is quite different then the other Kristen Painter books I usually read. I.e. Her Nocturne Falls and Jayne Frost series. It was nice to see a different side to Mrs Painter! This is about Jessalyne a sheltered woman who finds out she is not who she is suppose to be. She hires a deadly man Ertemis to escort her, which is not something he really wants to do. This is a great fantasy with mages and elves! i also absolutely love the way BJ Harrison narrates, the voices fit perfectly with the characters!

narrator is so good, book not so much

a cute fluff story,. no real conflict. a lot of the book is spent doing chores which is odd. the lovers dynamic was cute for the first half and then they just separate for the second half. I started eye-rolling during the ending. the pay off was not good, the characters are 2-dimentional and the story is predictable. but the narrator is SO good and he made the book a fun read.

Meh

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I don't think I'd recommend this book to a friend. The plot seemed interesting enough, especially because I didn't read it for it's complexity, but the underdeveloped characters and contrived scenarios made me wish they'd just gotten together and drifted into obscurity together just for it to be a little different. The performance was kind of flat, but so were the characters. There was a lot of potential, but it just didn't get there. At times the reader made me feel like he was reading me headlines on the evening news. Not my favorite by far.

Another great author/narrator collaborative hit

Kristen Painter's writing with B. J. Harrison's narration are always an unbeatable hit. Just the right amount of intrigue, tension, action, villainous acts, and love all rolled up. Then to top it all off, the incredible narration and distinction of voices done with just the right inflection and emotions. Job well done.

Good Story

Really great narration for the male characters. Really beautiful voice for the hero. The female characters, however, always sounded hysterical and spoiled. I almost stopped listening because the female character sounded so obnoxious. The story was great and I wasn't able to put it down. Good book.

easy "reading"

not the most imaginative story nor the most elaborate of characters (not to mention to many cringe worthy descriptions of emotions and lustful feeling...), but an easy reasonable way to pass the time.

Opposites Attract in Fun Delicious Ways

I loved this story and the characters were amazing. Both characters evolve into a loving relationship [even with all the obstacles blocking thier way]. Forgiveness is powerful and I'll say it again...Love concurs all. I recommend this a must read because you will enjoy it.

Not what I was looking for.

I was looking for a more "raunchy" fantasy with some sexual tension.

I got a romance with your stereotypical DnD cookie cutter characters. They could have been human for all it meant to the story, minus a few plot lines.

I prefer a little more plot and character development. This was guy finds girl/girl finds guy, they are instantly attracted but oh! We can't be together for (insert contrived reason), but suddenly this reason ceases to exist. She will "lose her magic and must remain pure"...but later this is conveniently forgotten as it was the evil witch who told her so? We don't explain how this won't still happen???

Too many plot devices were too convenient. If you're looking for a story about a guy and a girl who want to be together and eventually are, you may enjoy this. If you need some things to feel plausible while this is happening, think twice. "Oh come on" went through my head a few too many times. I'll be looking for my sexual tension fix in the fantasy section instead of the romance section from now on.

Good performance. The narrator at least took it all in stride.

Easy listening

The storyline is weak, and predictable. Having said that, it's perhaps the ideal listen when sitting on the beach!
