I really enjoyed this story. B.J. can sing! I hope this is the beginning of a new series with a paranormal P.I.

Finding Renewal in Retirement

I have listened to nearly all of Kristin's series and honestly I think she shines in short story form. I would LOVE to have this be a series of short stories and adventures. This was such a pleasure to listen to and I truly need just a long story of BJ Harrison doing Callum McCarthy's Irish brogue because swoon. The banter and flirtation was cute and I appreciate a mature romance not meaning steamy but with folks who know who they are have dated and know their boundaries and it isn't puppy love and insecurity. The relationship between these characters emerges from competence and confidence which is enjoyable. You don't have to work hard for these stories, there are not any shocking twists but similar to watching a Hallmark I am not listening for deep stories that take all my attention. If you enjoy Kristin's other works and enjoy a supernatural romance with some light humor and happy ending this is a nice little afternoon listen.

Great story… wish there were more

Read the story when it first came out and then saw it on Audible… love listening to BJ Harrison… such a great voice… I decided to add Mockingbird to my library. Glad I did… This is a novella, so long enough to get me to work & back… great characters & I love that they’re older… Also love that Ms Painter sees the good side of traditionally darker species. Please write more stories with Cal & Bess!

Enjoyable

Short tale but entertaining enough. It’s a bit short for character development or complex plotting. It might be nice to have a full length story with this protagonist.

I noticed this little novella and even though it's not part of an existing series and stands on its own quite nicely, it would be great fun to see more of these characters. I'd love to see what happens when she adopts the two kittens and if the two main characters find more than friendship. Loved it and love pretty much anything Kristen writes.
