Uncover our most powerful, complex, and misunderstood emotion

Shame. Just the word makes most people uncomfortable, and though we all feel shame, no one likes to acknowledge it. Why? Because shame is the most painful and destructive emotion we experience. It’s also designed to protect us.

In Healing Shame, Sheila Rubin and Dr. Bret Lyon ask the question: What if your shame - that awful, overwhelming emotion - could work for you instead of sabotaging your well-being?

“Shame is at the root of depression, trauma, addiction, eating disorders, and perfectionism”, they teach. “When we go to extremes to keep our vulnerabilities hidden, our very efforts keep us stuck. But when we develop a healthy relationship with this complex emotion, we find freedom and healing.”

An empowering exploration of shame - where it comes from and how we can heal

For almost two decades, Lyon and Rubin have been leading the effort to educate psychotherapists on how to more effectively work with shame. With this new audio program, they make their most important teachings available to everyone. Through six dynamic, practice-filled sessions, you’ll explore topics such as the difference between shame and other difficult emotions, sex and relationships, the body and aging, childhood trauma, and more. Finally, you’ll learn how to have a healthy relationship with shame, cultivating safe boundaries, strength, and resilience.

A married couple who have made peeling back the layers of shame their life’s work, Lyon and Rubin bring great compassion to their teachings. With humor and hope, they’ll help you understand how to transform toxic shame into healthy shame, so you can go from feeling stuck, wrong, and fearful to creative, whole, and empowered.

Shame is at the root of pain and suffering, but luckily you don't have to feel trapped anymore. What Sheila and Bret have outlined here is a practical understanding for how shame operates. We all deal with shame to some degree, but it can vary depending on what kind of trauma you experienced growing up. The good news is there's now hope beyond shame and this audiobook tells you exactly how to get there (:

Very important audiobook to anyone who has trauma!

I found it very helpful to speed the delivery up to 1.3x. That was really the perfect speed, it doesn’t sound at all unnatural. The speakers just talk extremely slow. Overall, it was great and I’ll probably listen to it again.

Good content, slow delivery

The information, insights, advice... wonderful. Actually very helpful. I always love to find people with a pioneering and truly effective understanding and or viable method(s) for approaching complexes/emotions/ailments/etc which are not only a far cut above whatever typically convoluted and sometimes counter productive dribble the mainstream systems/current “conventional” “wisdom” on said topics may be, but are truly innovative as well.

Now... that being said... the authors/speakers sound... idk how to put it... almost exhausted.
Maybe that’s helpful and or intentional? Like to help evoke a calming tone but... it’s a lot.. and makes it kinda hard to stay tuned in when listening but-
Well worth it.

Very helpful and insightful information, especially for such a difficult topic

This was a very insightful listen which will benefit my relationships and overall well being. It brought understanding and allowed me to take more responsibility for disharmony I have contributed to.
The authors are very genuine in their expression and share their personal stories with shame which lends credibility.
The meditations if approached with openness are powerful as are the writing exercises.
The book covers many facets of shame not all of which applied to myself; however, it explained much of my own experience, and I will use the information I learned to the end of my days.
