Publisher's Summary

He Will Kill You: the new enthralling thriller from Charlie Gallagher. Maddie Ives’ toughest case yet.

Grace Hughes: kicked to the bathroom floor by her partner, her back and side aching from where he slammed the door on her frail body, fighting to regain her breath, she can no longer ignore a simple truth: she must leave or he will kill her.

Grace is a prisoner in her own home but she has a plan to get free. Detective Sergeant Maddie Ives is going to help her. Maddie now works with a team specialising in getting abused women to safety. She tells Grace to keep a diary, to write everything down so it forms part of the compelling evidence needed to send her abuser to prison.

The detective doesn’t know how bad it’s got. Grace hasn’t been completely honest. But Grace wants to tell her everything, and Maddie will make her safe.

Maddie has a lot on her mind. A dead boy in a bath, a car bomber who wants to make a statement and the return of a scarred DI Harry Blaker.

Can he and Maddie stop the bomber, find a killer and get Grace to safety - whether she helps herself or not?

Grace's time is running out. She must escape or die.

Riveting Read

I really like this detective series following Sergeant Maddie Ives. This time she is specialising with victims of abuse and she deals with Grace Hughes who is being controlled and abused by her partner Craig. As usual the controller isolates the victim to the point it is just the two of them. He is free to come and go, she is not and he makes sure of it by trapping her into a device attached to the sofa.

Little does he know Grace has spoken to and met Maddie and she asks her to diary and possibly detail the violence Grace details every blow etc and it’s horrific. All the while she is hiding her book. Maddie has even given her phrases to use to diffuse the situation.

In the meantime there is a bomber to deal with, a young lad doing petty theft and when he is caught he is frightened. Why because someone else he fears is nearby. Throw in a pompous business man who is hoping to be going on to bigger and better things but is hiding a secret. There is a link and Maddie & Di Harry Blacker are back together trying to crack the case/cases will they stop the bomber?
Will Grace ever be free and Maddie has secrets of her own. Thrilling.

I read and listened to this book and the narrator Antonia Beamish is wonderful at acting out each part. My only niggle is the word She which often comes out sounding like he but otherwise excellent.

Really enjoyed this one

Must admit the DV in this turned my stomach and made me so angry, but the development of the characters and their growing relationship is a great read.

Confusing

This story is all over the place with no cohesive joining of chapters or characters. It starts with a couple arguing over a car seat. Then an explosion. Then reclaiming military medals in a pawn shop. . Then another couple in an abusive relationship. No mention of Maddies undercover past which was so prominent in the first book. Antonia Beamish is great. But the story is completely disjointed. This is the first poor review I’ve ever given as I really want the story to work. But for me, it just doesn’t ..........
