When Haven’s social studies teacher urges her to find a specific, manageable way to make a difference to the planet, Haven focuses on the annual science class project at the local Belmont River, where her class will take samples of the water to analyze. The only thing that’s changed by the river is the opening of Gemba, the new factory where Haven’s dad works. Loved it!
As an adult reading this to possibly recommend for middle grade readers, I thoroughly enjoyed the book myself and would highly recommend it to readers of all ages! This is the first book for kids that I’ve read addressing eco-anxiety and Barbara Dee does a great job diving into Haven’s feelings in a way that will hopefully be relatable but not triggering for young readers. The narration is also great. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
