This is so dangerous. The military is lurking. Vicious monsters are lurking. And when Mary turns out to be even worse than we could have ever imagined, my desperate bid to save this monster turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Just pure love

Each book is just as good ad the last one. Rig is so cute and I just loved his story.

So I loved the two Wynn books!!! Edin was amazing as well! But now I need to Re listen to Ryke—-as this installment helped me to understand more the complexities of the various beasties…BUT to this LOVE story- I loved everything about it - the underdog determination was PERFECTION- and the spice was just right!!!!!!

Wow, wow, wow. Gloam was everything. Lily Mayne just keeps knocking it out of the park with this series and I’m obsessed. Adam and Gloam completely stole my heart. The slow burn, the gentle way they got to know each other, the quiet moments that somehow felt more intense than any action scene… it was absolute perfection.

I adored revisiting Aury and Ghost (my sweet babies 🥹) and the little glimpses of them made me so happy. And when Gloam mentioned taking Adam to the place where they could extend his life? That gave me life. The mix of angst, romance, and hope in this story was just gorgeous.

Oh, and let’s not forget, this book was HOT. The payoff was so worth the wait, and it was written in such a raw, beautiful way that made it feel even more special.

This series keeps getting better with every book. Gloam was heartbreaking, hopeful, romantic, and sexy all in one. I cannot wait to dive straight into the next one.

Who knew that the biggest cinnamon roll in the series could dirty talk like a pro?

Anyway, very well written, with an interesting setting, great characters, a lot of action—heh, take that however you’d like—and very nicely spicy.

The performance brought all the characters to life. Well done!

Love this series

Didn't know Rig could have such a dirty mouth! I loved this addition to the series, the world building the characters, and the narration were all amazing. I will definitely listen to this one again.

Ok, but even without being able to speak through most of the story, Gloam is the sweetest person in the world. I felt so much for how he was kept in control against his will.
Poor Gloam. His story is heartbreaking.
I'm so glad that Rig was so stubborn in his pursuit to see him free.

The Connection

This whole series is WONDERFUL. The world is rich, the characters are compelling, and the romance made me grin and kick my feet.
Rig is adorable and so relatable. I love how big his heart is.
Gloam is mysterious and oh so tragic.
The two of them combined? *chef’s kiss*
10/10 I’ve read this like 10 times already…would totally read again.

another great couple

After reading the previous book I couldn’t wait to start reading this book to see how Rig free the beasties and deals with traveling in the Waste. This book does have a little bit of overlap with The Rycke but it’s told from Rig’s POV and doesn’t last long. Rig’s story was another wonderful and fascinating addition to this series and introduces us to new monsters who I want to know more about now.

Like the previous books, I really enjoyed Rig’s character and determination to save the monsters trapped by Collector Mary. Rig may have started as a scared guy who hated being in the Waste’s but we quickly see him grow into a confident and determined man who will do anything to save Gloam and the other beasts trapped by Mary. I really loved Rig’s determination but also how sweet and compassionate he was.

Gloam was a wonderful, protective, and extremely smart monster. I loved that while he is extremely strong, he is also so sweet and gentle. I love the fact that there is a monster out there who is all about preserving history and learning everything they can about the world. Rig and Gloam have an instant attraction and chemistry that was so sweet and wonderful to read. Their sweet story was just a great counterbalance to the tragic circumstances of Gloam’s imprisonment.

Overall, this was another wonderful book for this series. I also really love how Mayne does small things to tie all these books together because it makes me even more interested in reading the rest of the series. I especially can’t wait to see what happens to the military since we are continuing to learn more about their evil deeds.

Just as good in audio!

I’ve already read this in print, but it was great to hear the voices of Rig and Gloam. Not so much Mary {shudder} but I guess she’s a (totally evil) part of the story. Looking forward to Moth and Seraph!

Oh this book was absolutely fantastic! It was everything I was hoping to expect and more, I’m obsessed with this universe!
And that ending makes me so excited to read the next book!
