Story
We were 18 when I met Remington Monroe. I'd never seen anyone like him. He got onstage at the coffeehouse, armed with a guitar and corny jokes...but unable to hide his lonely eyes. When he sang, I was entranced. When we spent the night talking together, I knew my world would never be the same.

Milo. Unusual. Quirky. Different. I’ve heard it all. I’ve accepted I’m not for everyone. When I find out I inherited a bookstore and apartment on a small East Coast island, I jump at the chance for a new life. Turns out I’ve also inherited a sexy, tattooed guy who not only rents the space next to my store but my apartment too. Gideon. I wasn’t looking for a roommate, but it’s not like I can stay at Milo’s place while he’s banished to a hotel. According to Milo, we’re bestie goals. And if he doesn’t wear pants at home, who am I to complain?

Story
I spent college worrying about responsibilities and earning my teaching degree, so before graduation and moving to Atlanta with my best friend, Ross, I figure I deserve a little fun. I’ve never been with an older man, but the guy at the bar grabs my attention and doesn’t let go…for multiple rounds, all night long. The next day, when Ross introduces me to his dad, the last thing I expect is for him to be my hookup from the night before, in town from Atlanta for his son’s graduation. The best thing would be to pretend it never happened, which is easier said than done.

If there's one thing I know, it's how to play the game...both on and off the field. If it hadn't been for that one teenage slipup where I kissed Beau Campbell, I'd be able to keep fooling myself. Football is the one thing I use to distract myself from the truth, and when I screw-up and lose the game I love, I find myself right back in Fever Falls. And right back face-to-face with Cranky Campbell, who hates me even more than he did when we were kids. But whatever magic he held over me then is still there.

It started out as a little fun. When there was a man in my building on a hookup app, why not message him? Only we didn’t meet. We just texted - one night after the other, after the other. GoodWithHisHands was the perfect escape from my life, where pressure was always on my shoulders: my father’s expectations, the worry about my sister, Maddy, getting sick again, and her ex-husband, Ryder Lynwood, suddenly back and volunteering at the same hospital as me. I like talking to him, the same way I enjoy chatting with GoodWithHisHands. They weren’t supposed to be the same person.

A night on the town after a long workweek at my family's distillery should include shots and dancing - not a hot kiss with a handsome stranger. I'm straight. At least, that's what I figured until I find myself locking lips with a sexy city boy. Now, all my circuits are going haywire, and the spark that ignites between us makes me even more curious. Unfortunately, I kissed the one man who's off-limits: Cohen Mitchell - the sole surviving heir to the Mitchell Creek distillery, a rival neighbor my family has feuded with for nearly a 100 years.

When it comes to hockey, I'm all about the game. I've worked for years to be one of the best in the league, and l've done it without splashing my orientation all over the tabloids. My hockey image is one I've carefully cultivated, and after one night with Ezra Palaszczuk, I risk it all. He's cocky, obnoxious, and has an ego bigger than Massachusetts. And okay, maybe he's the sexiest man I've ever known. We'll never get along. Not when we sleep together. Not even when my possessive streak awakens. That doesn't stop us from falling into bed together over and over again.

The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

I've been in love with my best friend since forever. Okay, fine. Like, kindergarten. It started out platonic, obviously, but then became.... Nope. Still platonic. The problem is that Parker Ellis has been straight since forever. And that makes it difficult to convince him that the two of us are meant to be together. And now, there's no point. All is lost. He's gone and gotten engaged to his high-school sweetheart - which means I have to grin and bear it, while pretending to be the happy, supportive best man, while he prepares to commit his life to a woman.

Publisher's Summary
Kellan:
I wasn't supposed to fall for my older brother's best friend. Unfortunately, that ship sailed when I was a teenager, even though Chase Hawthorne always treated me like nothing more than a younger sibling. Things were worse after my parents died. Chase was sweet and supportive, which only strengthened my feelings for him. But then he'd act like I couldn't take care of myself, and that part didn't go over well with me.
Yeah, I had a habit of screwing up. I'd always been the weird boy in our small town, but just like my big brother, he took overprotective to a new level. Until one night when I was 18 and Chase and I hooked up. It was a ding to the ego that he left town right afterward. Ridiculously, I'm still not over him.
Chase:
I betrayed my best friend, Griffin, the night I messed around with Kellan. So I ran - first to the marines, then into law enforcement. Ten years later, I'm back home, this time as a patrol officer rather than a troublemaker's son. Oh, and unable to keep my hands off Kellan Caine. There's always been something about him...the way he stands strong in who he is, even when he's standing alone. I'm trapped between someone I want more than anything and Griff, the guy who's like family to me. Yet the more time I spend with Kellan, the harder it becomes to deny there's something real between us.
With my dad stirring up trouble, and me going behind my best friend's back, everything's a mess. The more tangled the web gets, the more I realize I need Kellan. And that there might be something in the Hawthorne family history that'll make me lose both Kellan and Griffin for good.

Would NOT recommend
The term of endearment "Baby Boy" is just flat out creepy and disturbing. Characters that feed stereotypes, pushing a social narrative, and severely underdeveloped story line. I can't believe this is the same author of the Crossroads series. Big, strong former Marine now turned cop falls in love with promiscuous waif. And of course they adopt a shelter dog (don't we hate it when people treat animals that way) that has NOTHING to do with the story but does get one reference in the epilogue. Kellan comes across as so feminine at times it seems the book was initially a male/female romance. I don't have a problem with a feminine character, but there were just so many mixed messages about Kellan I couldn't find the patience to care. Highly Disappointing. Would NOT recommend.

Female author
I hate that female authors writing gay romance, LITERALLY write it the exact same as straight romance and just change the names and sex scenes, literally it’s getting to the point where I’m gonna start refusing to read anything gay romance wise that’s not written by an actual male....i guess the target audience is women though they don’t write mm romance for gay guys they write them FOR straight women.....not that anyone ever reads these but we can tell ......every time you write this kinda junk, WE CAN TELL, that ur not trying in the least THANK GOD audible allows us to return books that blow.

A new series to love
I have an affinity for Riley Hart books. I know what I’m going to get, and I’m never disappointed. There’s something comforting with that. I was in a bit of hangover when Whiskey Creek ended, but I was revived when she began a new series – Havenwood.
I also have an affinity for the brother’s best friend trope. Griff is Chase’s best friend. Has been a solid presence in his life. Brought him home one day and showed him what a real family was. Treated him more like another brother than just a friend. Griff’s family embraced the wounded Chase, each demonstrating their love. In the midst of those developing relationships, Griff’s younger brother Kellen hit puberty and discovered not only that he was gay but that he had a massive crush on his older brother’s best friend. He held that secret close to his chest until the night when he was eighteen when he acted on that attraction. The next week Chase joined the Marines, leaving Havenwood seemingly forever.
Fast forward ten years and the Kaine brothers are doing well, thriving in their small town. They still miss their parents who were taken away in a violent mugging, but they’ve settled into a routine. Griff runs a bar while Kellen teaches art. The brothers still live in their childhood home and neither has had a serious relationship. They’re okay with that, though, because they have each other.
Then Chase comes back to town and everything changes. He and Griff take back up as best friends, and as much as he tries to resist Kell, he takes back up with him as well. But they have to be on the DL because there’s no way Griff is going to accept the relationship. Chase is back as a patrol officer and it’s not long before he’s back to dealing with his father. Only this time he’s an adult in a position of authority.
Kellen is certainly all grown up. He has friends and a good business. He’s managed to mature despite Griff’s constant coddling. Now, faced with Chase, he finds himself getting everything he’s ever wanted. But malevolent forces are still present, and soon the men face discovery. The question becomes will they be able to sustain their relationship in the light of day?
I have to admit I fell in love with Kellen, Chase, and even Griff. Loyal and loving, each man believes in family. And in standing up for those they love. Although I knew Kell and Chase were going to get together, there were still some dark moments to get there. But it was a Riley Hart romance, so I got everything I wanted.
Kale Williams is one of my favorite narrators. His Kellen had a bit of a Southern accent, easily distinguishing him from the other men. The delivery was solid and the performance was well done. I hope he’ll be narrating the next book. It’s already out and I’m hoping will be coming to audio soon.

I loved this book so much. Riley really outdid herself with this one. This was my third time listening to Kale and I have to say he did an amazing job with it. The sexy times were hot as well and I so love this trope so of course I was going to listen to it. I can't wait to get into the rest of the series.

Good listen
I enjoyed the book and the narrator. I doubt it’ll go into my relisten folder, but I have no regrets about buying it. The story was cute and good enough to not be cookie cutter for the brother’s best friend troupe. I’d recommend this listen.

Good story. Good narration.
I really like Riley Hart's writing and Kale Williams narration so I decided to pick up this book. The idea for the story is interesting. The characters are okay, but their personalities rely on stereotypes a bit too much.
The narration started out with a slight accent that disappeared, but was good otherwise.
The resolution was decent so it is worth the read/listen if you are interested in another series by Riley Hart.

Annoying Character & Voice
I regret using a credit for this book...Kellum's character off the rip was absolutely frustrating and annoying. The voice acting was done well, but the accent used was like nails on a chalk board to me (paired with the characters obnoxious personality).
I'm very disappointed because I love Riley Hart and was looking forward to a series with a lot of books in it. *sigh*

I can't, I just can't.... The narrator
First, I really identify with LGBTQ, I am a closeted masculine guy, I respect all men who are openñy gay, or, feminine, and all that... I like them, but this narrator for this book, OMG, Riley Hart has some really good books, I can't with this narrator, it makes the character too, IDK..... it almost makes it seem like that's the reason why Chase wouldn't get closer, ... I don't know what happens later, I was only able to listen for a while.... I never withdraw from books, I power through and give them a chance... I just can't enjoy it... I wanted Kel to be this masculine young closeted dude . and that's not who he was... and even if Riley Hart wanted to portray that, the narrator just doesn't make that happen,..... my respect to Kale Williams, he narrates well, his voice is pleasant, his articulation is excellent, but this book, this story....I just can't. I'd much rather a narrator that acts very straight, and it's funny because when he does the voice for Chase, he does much better and passes for more "masculine".. somewhat.... so I don't know, maybe Riley Hart wanted Kel be just be "that type" and that's ok... just not for me. I was looking for her usual closeted guy type-story, where they're both masculine... please don't send any hate, I don't mean any harm by this, I am gay myself, I get it, I have gay friends who are very feminine, I am closeted so I'm very careful what I do and where I go, I'm still working on it, I wish I can overcome all of this and come out some day, but Riley Hart's books are about these closeted men... I love them.. The narrator is not working for that in this one.

Not one of Riley Heart’s best
The characters lacked depth, some of their reactions seemed out of character for the particular character in question. I will continue to read Riley’s books as up until this one, they had been enjoyable.
