Publisher's summary

Carlo Diamante wonders if the beautiful and mysterious woman he keeps seeing is stalking him. If she is stalking him, why does she keep disappearing in the crowd when he approaches her? He wonders if she is just an illusion. Perhaps she is a dream woman created by his vivid imagination. Carlo finally confides in his very ill sister, who tells him there is something very special about this woman and that Carlo needs to find her. Meanwhile another mystery is unfolding in the jungles of the Amazon. Carlo doesn't know it yet, but there is a connection between the mystery girl on the subway and the mystery unfolding in the jungle. Carlo has never believed in miracles, but his life is about to change forever. Maybe miracles are real.

Intriguiging Paranormal Pageturner!

What did you like about this audiobook?

This is an intense and provocative tale. The narrator could have been more in tune with, and paced his narration, with the nuances of the unfolding drama.

Do you have any additional comments?

Girl of the Cloud Forest, begins with a pace much like Edgar Allen Poe would favor, a narrative building tension with casual hints that something isn't "quite right." As Carlos Diamonte, computer programmer and member of a close-knit Italian family, goes about his everyday routine...commuting on the subway from Kew Gardens, Queens to NYC, lunching with the office crew at a local watering hole, walking on the street... a young, beautiful, sad, but illusive Hispanic woman seems to be stalking him. And indeed, she is...for two reasons, one you could never guess. As the story unfolds, the pace quickens and the author's own style infuses with Poe to create an exciting, fast-paced, intriguing, paranormal tale... highly recommended.

* I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Carlos is young and single. He spends at least one night a week having family dinner at his parent's house. He also has a sister who he loves very much.

All that paints a picture of a happy family, however despite their closeness there is a dark cloud that hangs over the family. Carlos' sister, Josephine is dying from terminal cancer. They know there is nothing that can be done to save her life, but they are thankful for every moment they have with her.

When Carlos meets a beautiful young woman from Bolivia, he is captivated. They have several encounters and Carlos is in love.

Then she disappears. Carlos is determined to find her and travels all the way to her hometown deep in the jungles of Bolivia.

What he finds there is shocking and will change not only his life, but the lives of others as well.

I was not sure what to expect from this audiobook, but once I started listening I did not want to stop.

This is both a drama and a paranormal romance audiobook.

The narrator had quite a challenge to overcome with the many hard to pronounce place names in Bolivia, but he pulls the pronunciation off seamlessly. The only time I didn't like the narration was near the end of the audiobook when he does a high pitched female voice that just sounds silly. However, it was only one sentence so it did not have any impact on my overall enjoyment of this audiobook.

I really liked the fact that I was surprised multiple times while listening to GIRL OF THE CLOUD FOREST. There are many twists and turns to this story.

There are some questions that arise in this book that would be interesting to discuss with other readers/listeners. It would make an interesting Book Club pick.

I rate this book as 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

BEAUTIFUL MIRACLE STORY

A most lovely and poetic story about Carlo Diamante who keeps seeing a mysterious girl and wants to meet her. Once he does, he falls in love with her but she keeps disappearing. Once he learns her name is Emilene Espinosa he decides to take a trip to Bolivia and look for her in her home town. She had told him that the only way to reach her village is through a treacherous mountain pass called The Death Road. Once he arrives, he learns that there are more modern roads than what she had mentioned. He was completely confused.

Once he arrives in the village he goes to her house and speaks to her father Carlos who takes Carlo for a walk to the cemetery behind the Church. What he learns is devastating however, from the devastation miracles arise. Carlo was surprised that her father's name was Carlos. It was easy for him to remember.

Emilene had come to Carlo because she knew he needed her. His sister Josephine had terminal cancer and she knew of a cure from a fungus that grows at the top of the Corteza Verdi tree in the Amazon forest. Carlo and Mateo, Emilene's brother, among others take a grueling trip through the forest to retrieve the fungus for Josephine.

This was one of the best stories I've listened to. I would highly recommend this one. It's moving, sad, happy, exciting, and most of all heart-warming. Miracles do happen. And they often happen in the least likely places. What a wonderful story written by Dennis Butler. I look forward to hearing more from him.

Mathew Whitfield did a superb job narrating this amazing audiobook. He made it seem as if it were non-fiction or a memoir. He spoke in a natural voice and made it easy to listen to. His performance made this an overall great story. I hope to hear more from him in the future as well.

A Very Unique Read/audiobook

If you could sum up Girl of the Cloud Forest in three words, what would they be?

Suprise, Unique and Different

What was one of the most memorable moments of Girl of the Cloud Forest?

When Carlo is taken to the Cemetery by Emilene's father.

Have you listened to any of Matthew Whitfield’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Any additional comments?

I found myself surprised over and over again as I listened to the book. Carlo is the main character we follow through out most of the book. He really starts out a normal sweet guy that is trying to help his sister. He falls in love with a mysterious woman he feels has to try to spend more time with her if he can find her again. Her name is Emilene from Bolivia. So he takes a trip to Bolivia to find her and try to find out if she is the one. What he really finds is her family. Namely her father who explains to Carlo about Emilene. He also explains that she must have come to him for a purpose. So he asks him if he or someone he loves is sick? And that would be his sister. Only the locals know about a miracle cure for his sister that with out it will die. When ever I felt sad for the character's than god's plan for them becomes apparent. And you can easily understand the why of the drama in their lives.

The storyline is Unique because of Emilene and the relationship that develops between her and Carlo. That you have to listen to the book to understand. I don't think I have ever come across a book this interesting and Unique before. If you are looking for something new and different. I think you have found it in this book.
The ending is the only thing that truly shocked me. I had expected a happily ever after and it was but it was nothing like I thought it would be.
The author did a good job writing a very unique storyline that never is exactly what it seems.
Matthew the narrator really sounded in love with Emilene it was so sweet.

Any additional comments?

I was given a free copy of this and Glisten of the Ngirozi by the author for an honest review....I have listened to both...and although I like Glisten best, this book is a great love story with an interesting twist...Carlo is a good man, and is basically set on a path to help others by Emiline who is a beautiful spirit girl....It made my heart happy, and it will yours too! Well worth a listen...and it is one I will think about for quite some time!

Amazing journey of life, love, longing, and desire

Reminiscent of the magical realism of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the Girl of the Cloud Forest by Dennis Butler is an amazing journey through the physical, mystical, and exotic worlds of life, love, longing, and desire. The contrasting settings of the busy New York City, laid-back San Francisco, and a small Colombian village on the Amazon River add to the beauty and depth of this wonderful story.

Carlo Diamante, a young programmer in New York City, sees a beautiful woman and can’t get her out of his mind and his heart. He’s intrigued by her and wants to meet her but cannot find her anywhere: not in the restaurant, not in the subway, not anywhere else. Then, she finds him herself, and they spend two unforgettable days together. That’s where Carlo’s life takes an exciting and an unexpected turn.

Driven by love and, Carlo takes a leave of absence at work and travels all by himself to meet his girlfriend’s family. The trip is long and arduous, but Carlo is prepared for any hardships. What he is not prepared for is the meeting with the girl’s father who tells Carlo shocking and devastating news.

And that’s when the story gets even more exciting, as Carlo, the girl’s father, and a small group of people travel through the treacherous Amazon jungle teeming with secrets, exotic plants, and dangerous animals, to get to the tree that grows on a sharp cliff and holds the secrets of life and death.

This is a beautifully written book, with an exciting plot and well-developed characters. Matthew Whitfield’s narration fits the story just perfectly: his voice and style matches the main character’s personality and mood, and he does a wonderful job with the pacing of the story, keeping it interesting, mysterious, and engaging. I look forward to more books from this wonderful team of Matthew Whitfield and Dennis Butler.
