Ghostmaker, by far the best in Sci-Fy!

Although written years ago before the iPhone or even Amazon existed, Gauntsghosts is just as pertinent to the genre as it was when I first read it in its paperback format. I would recommend Warhammer 40,000 to anyone who loves Sci-aft!

fantastic book that requires your full attention

For context, i usually listen to audiobooks while working and driving so when i started this book I realized i needed to pay more attention to the story because its really well told but frequently jumps to different points in time and tells multiple short stories about the members of the ghosts. It was easy to miss some of the transitions to different stories and could be confusing but it was such a good book that i went back for a second listen to pick up the details that i missed.

A story with no plot

There is nothing happening in this story, except for long descriptions of mundane things. I don't know if it's because this is Dan Abnett's first book or what, but characters are all over the place. No reasons to why they go places, where they are going, or what they are actually try to accomplish. Even the narrator sounds genuinely bored for most of story, but he still does his best with the material. Skip this one unless you absolutely must know the very uninteresting back story to Gaunt's Ghosts, or if you just need to fall asleep

Just as good

Seen a lot of reviews claiming the first was better. there was more mystery in the first, more political intrigue here, but it was just as good.

Loving the series so far

This trilogy is my first in the 40K universe and Dan Abnett was suggested to me by someone who's opinion I kinda trust. I have not been disappointed. These books are really good for listening to while I'm at work and I can focus on them without needing to give it every ounce of my attention while still being really engaged in the story. Toby Longworth is also really nice to listen to. his character voices are quite varied and well done and they really seal the deal for me.

As for the actual story in the book, this one has a number of flashbacks that help you get to know the characters more and I really liked all of those.

I forgot how good this ghostmaker is!

Ghostmaker is a amazing collections of short stories, it was great to revisit them.
I can't remember the voice actors name but he is great, what a fething ledge! with spot on scottish accents bringing the ghosts alive and a massive locker of other accents available to him that I didn't know I wanted or needed! bravo
had a lot of fun listening to this book, gutted that the whole back catalogue isn't here @audible get on it please!

Having read these books already, the audiobook brought a new perspective to it. Dan Abnett's writing is complimented perfectly by Toby Longworth.

Brilliant series, brilliant narration.

The Gaunts Ghosts novels are action packed and beautifully written anyway. But Toby Longworth’s narration brings them to life. I’m amazed by the sheer amount of accents and voices this man can imitate. Auto purchase this series.

Epic!

Toby Longworth has to be my favourite narrator , accents are spot on and add a real depth to the characters and story. Dan abnett also deserves praise for pulling together a story that although has its roots in 40k , could easily be a stand alone saga .

Toby Longworth is amazing.

Each character get his or her own voice. Their own accent.
Toby doesn't just read the pages in front of him, he acts them out.

Not bad, good souize

One of the few poor showings from Dan Abnett, with this novel being less of a cohesive story and more of a loose collection of cool story ideas that have been strung together.
Great to get some more backstory to the ghosts and as per usual Toby Longworth knocks it out of the park, and I think if it was advertised and structured a bit better I might've enjoyed it more as DA is usually good at trying threads together by the end.
For the advertisement, it only has to do with the blurb for less than half of the book, other than that it's all flashbacks, memories and old tales that quite a few of which would've sat well before the first book or placed sparingly in this one.

One of my favourite Abnett books

Well worth a listen. It has been awhile since I listened to the first Ghost's book so I was somewhat unsure if I would like this one and by feth's sake I bloody loved it. The narration by Toby Longworth was solid throughout, as always. There were so many unique moments in this book that made me not want to stop listening, I would sit in my car an extra 10 minutes finishing the scene/battle utterly enthralled. Get it, try it, love it.
