Story is good Narrator is HORRIBLE OMG SO BAD

Dan Abnett always writes a good story but it's almost completely ruined by this performance. The narrator makes every character sound like a pervert or a wacky cartoon version of the characters I know & love. I'll finish this one just like every other Grunt's Ghost book so far but I will have to skip any other books narrated by this guy. This performance abysmal & I'm finding it harder & harder to finish this book.

Good book, decent reader.

This was read by someone who has a similar accent to the Tanith themselves. Sometimes the accent makes listening difficult. Also. if someones using sign language to speak, you dont have to drag their voice out comically. theyre deaf, not mute.

Fethin awful voice acting but amazing story

Dan Abnett is the best 40K author and writes an amazing story but the voice work is a hard pass, Larkin and the space marine especially. Worth it if you can look past that

What the feth happened to Toby Longworth?

The year is 2023. I've followed Gaunts Ghost from Tanith to Gereon, so enthralled in the series that at 40 my wife had a veto my second tattoo idea of the Tanith text "First and Only" across my chest. thank the emperor she did because my heart broke when I downloaded Salvation's Reach. Sorry James McPherson, I don't know you, you're probably an alright guy, but what the gak were you thinking. I tried getting on board, but just couldn't. I felt like I was 10 years old listening to a priest give his sermon at Sunday morning Mass when knowing my friends are out playing war in the canyon. The voices, tone, inflection, cadence, etc are just horrible for this series. after deep diving and what could have led to this, I learned that this may have actually been the first book recorded since this is about when audiobooks became a thing. And Toby didn't come on till later. I also realized that there are three books missing from the audio series at this time: Only in Death, The Iron Star, and Blood Pact. I'm pausing until these come out. Hopefully real soon with Toby still at the helm. And I'm praying they re narrate salvation's reach with Toby as well...FOR TANITH!!

narrator is sub par

I can't stand this narrator. His choice of voices for various characters managed to make me dislike beloved characters such as Larken and Raun from previous titles.

They should redo this narration with the VA from the first 8 books.

not really a fan of the narrator

after several books narrated by Toby this guy and his "funny" accents isn't really that good
especially what he did with Mad Larkin

Great story, unlistenable narration.

I haven't abandoned any other books mid-listen, but this narrator made me bail out.

This book was amazing. Dan Abnett is the best Black Library Author out there.

Redo this with Toby.

Can’t honestly review the story because I couldn’t get past the voice acting. I’ll just read this one.

Different Narrator

Salvation's Reach is another great installment in the series. The book is great, but I'm pretty upset they changed the narrator on this one. It's quite jarring when all the characters suddenly sound different.
