Slightly annoying characters

These characters just aren't that believable. They are both annoying, whiney, and too perfect all at the same time. Everyone gets along while simultaneously being catty, and no one has the sense to tell either the main protagonist (who is way too bossy) or her best friend (who is way too up in her business) that no one would think that they're over the top, and in fact everyone is jist so happy to tell them how great it all is, despite the total dysfunction in it all.

The narrator doesn't help much. I just didn't enjoy listenjng, whether because of the minor things, like pronouncing "autopsy" as "all-topsy" or the more major. The major annoyance was that she read everything as if every sentence was ended with an exclamation point. Also, half the men had horrible nasal voices (though I did appreciate her attempt to distinguish the various voices).

The story was passable (if not slightly predictable) and the love interests pretty much fawn all over each other throughout. Even someone like me, who can suspend reality for a bit, was rolling my eyes. So, be forewarned.

predictable but cute murder based ghost stories

It's nice to turn off the news with all the breaking stories of disaster and trauma, and pop on this set of murder based ghost stories. This is a light hearted series, nottoo greusome, too suspenseful, or too sexual. Think Murder She Wrote, not Law& Order SVU. The narration was rather annoying and overly youthful characterization at times, but I found about 30 minutes in, that if I slowed the speed down on the player to about .85 it helped a lot! I still wouldn't be choosing this woman to narrate my late 20yr old and over characters at any speed, but the slowed speed helped me get through the voices and heat the story. I'm glad I found the box set, it seemed short, even at a slowed speed, and underdeveloped character plots so I probably would have been frustrated if I had purchased the single books. Although, because it's a series all at one time, you have to overlook the recaps in each next book. You'll understand when you listen. All in all, this was a great escape from the deeply disturbing, and I'm glad I picked this book set for my light Halloween season commute listen.

Decent series, weak narrator

The characters in the series are a little cartoonish, but the relationships are sitcom worthy and taken as a light read/listen they are a nice diversion.

Angel Clark is not a great reader. Her male voices all seem to overly-projected like they are mostly yelling. Uncle Mel is a horrible voice and grating. I won't *not* get a book because she is reading, but she also won't tip getting a book because she is reading.

Good fun story

Books 1-3. These are good light mysteries with a fun theme throughout. Like other critics, I cringed at the narration as the narrator had nasal male voices. But overall, she was consistant with her voices. As for the stories, they were fun, I laughed at the banter, and I was also trying to figure out "who done it". So, with that in mind, I rated this based on the storries. Good twists and turns.

Most annoying narrator ever

The stories were ok at best, but the narrator sounds like a teenage robot. I honestly believe I could have done a better job. The nasal, squeally voices were just horrid.

The dialog was juvenile and was made even worse by the narrator. The stories weren't completely horrible. The subject matter was interesting, but felt like a teenager wrote them.

revamp

I didn't look to see which series came first, but I already listened to books by this author in another series where the female lead sees ghosts and helps move them to the afterlife. and just like that series, she gets a cop boyfriend that she gets upset with when they leave town and don't call. additionally they both have a gay male roommate that they have been best friends with since grade school. it's not bad, I've just heard parts of it before so it wasn't as original to me.
