Publisher's Summary

An action-packed tale of desperation and betrayal, Ghost Target is ideal for fans of Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn.

Ryan Drake - once a decorated field operative - is wanted for treason. On the run from the corrupt CIA Deputy Director Marcus Cain, he has settled in a remote French safehouse. His uneasy peace is soon shattered by a startling force. Meanwhile, with the war in Afghanistan faltering, the ambitious Cain claims to have a plan to destroy al-Qaeda’s top commanders. And nobody will stand in his way. Backed into a corner, and suspecting Cain’s motives, Drake turns to the deadly but unpredictable Anya - once Cain’s protégé, now his most bitter enemy. With the fate of the War on Terror potentially hanging in the balance, Drake and a hastily assembled team travel to Pakistan to intercept Cain. As loyalties are tested and scores are settled, only one side will survive....

Fantastic Series

If you are a fan of Vince Flynn novels (the ones he actually wrote), or of modern espionage action thrillers, you will like these. Buy them with confidence. Start at the beginning with Redemption (Book 1), because it's one long story. The plot is refreshingly entertaining and manages to avoid any of the tired motifs of the genre: World-domination/U.S.-destruction by a Russian-oligarch/Islamic-extremist. I found the series to be very entertaining and Jordan's story telling skills are excellent. I ran through the first 6 books in about a month and I'm looking forward to the rest of the story.

I do have to make one complaint though, and it's with Sam Devereaux's narration. He is actually very good except for his portrayal of one specific character to whom he has given the most bizarre accent. It's like a cross between a Boston Kennedy from the 1960s and someone born and raised Brooklyn. For example, she says Mah-cus instead of Marcus, Fow-wuh instead of "for," and Raw-eyan instead of Ryan. It's so distracting that every time the character says anything, which is often, it snaps me out of the story and all I can think about is how irritating the accent is. I don't have anything against the real world Brooklyn accents mind you, but Deveraux's version is terrible, and he never backs off on it. Also, the character is supposed to be a career Army officer. I can't believe that anyone that has ever set foot outside of NYC has an accent this thick. The audiobook would have been so much better if this character had been given a plain American accent. It didn't quite ruin the story for me - it's just one of several main characters - but man it came close. Maybe I'm in the minority here, and it won't bother you, but I figure it's worth mentioning.

The other thing to note is that as far as the audiobooks go, this might be it for a while. In spite of the fact that Books 7 & 8 have been out for years now, they're not yet available on audio. Ghost Target apparently only came out in September of 2020 in spite of being originally published in 2016, so it looks like we might be waiting a while for the rest of the series in Audible. If they do get released here though, I'll be picking them up for sure.

I went through all 9 books in 2 weeks

I went through 9 Books in 2 weeks just because I needed to know what happened to Ryan and Anya. 6 audible books then I went and purchased books 7, 8, 9 on amazon. WOW... Pretty good stuff... I'm only sorry it took me so long to know about this series. I also enjoyed all of the tropes pulled from my favorite movies in every book. I think the best part was the character building. I cared about everyone. Even Hawkins... So Like I said. The best part about each book is the characters. Will Jordan somehow makes you care deeply about them. Not just the main characters but almost all of them. How they feel what they want. Then the story itself feels like 7 seasons of a TV show like Alias or Undercover but done well. Everything seemed so plausible. Can't wait to see what his next project will be.

Enthralling

Un-put-down-able. A high value target. A mole. A team fraught with dissent & a leader trying to hold it all together for the sake of the mission. Brilliantly crafted, so intimately written & exquisitely narrated. Outstanding!!

Will Jordan the skald!

This is a really good story!

Leave aside my small criticisms of the performance, kit, or tactical thoughts, this IS A REALLY GOOD STORY.

From the opening to literally the last seconds of the epilog, this book lets you know there's more coming, and you want to find out what.

Get this book.

Now for those criticisms.

People from Kansas sound absolutely nothing like people from Chicago pfrom Chicago. I don't know where the narrator gets the idea that they can depict people from Kansas as sounding like people from Chicago, but the two groups are different enough that you don't even need to speak English to pick it up.

Please narrator, figure out how to say the terms properly for the equipment that people are using in the book.

As a guy who spent 10 years in the army, I cringe every time I hear some of the ham handed terminology or pronunciations.

What follows are points that most people don't care about, but are really just points for the author.

On a technical note, HK MP7s are rare, expensive, ineffective, profligate tools with poor terminal ballistics. Few countries adopted them. The ammo is even stupidly expensive.

Dude has to steal some cheap equipment but then spends 5x the cash on something with less punch and less penetration?

A krinkov or short barrel AR would have been easily more effective and cheaper.

Going along with this, it makes a difference what weapons you practice with. If you don't practice with an MP7, almost nobody does, then don't use it on a key operation.

All I'm saying is that considering this crew is short on money, they are spending top dollar for expensive, but not more effective, HK kit. That's weird.

Small points, I loved the book, glad there are more.

Wrong Lead Character

The Drake characters should not have been the lead he was awful in every way. Anya is the star of this series.

Ryan Drake gets better and better

You’d think this series would have run out of steam by now, but nothing could be further from the truth. This is the best of the series so far, full of action, twists and turns, and excitement. Great characters. Brilliant plotting. Superb stuff. Recommended.

Action packed all the way!

Very well written descriptive enough that I feel I am there but not too much and plenty of action all through. Really good narration too. Enjoy.

Great series but....where is the next book?

Gripped is the word, more twists and turns than the A6! The whole premise is action all the way however, the author is not afraid to shock and quite simply does. Excellent series, highly recommended

meh

I struggled through this one I want to know how the story ends but its a struggle to slog through the story has been dragged out as far as it can go drake at the start was supposed to be a top operator but he falls for every trap going and just does the same thing over and over at this point I'd be quite happy for the bad guys to win
