Read the book instead

Getting to Commitment is helpful if you're in a long-term relationship and are scared to death of moving things forward, and it's helpful if you're in the dating scene but keep finding yourself ending things before they get started. It helps me face fears and learn to reveal myself in a relationship, something I always fear doing, to better the relationship.

However, the vocal performance is fairly bad in this version. It is well spoken and high audio quality. What makes it bad? The voice actor reads the text like a newscaster, inserting hyperbolic pauses before key words for dramatic effect. Think William Shatner. Instead of listening to the book and having insights, I feel like I'm watching an infomercial, and the stylized speaking removes the ability for me to relate (who relates to an infomercial?). It's very old-fashioned and impeded me a bit from connecting. I own the e-book as well, though, which helps me retain the information and hear a voice that sounds more human.

Listened to it 3 times

I retained something new after listening at different points. Before a relationship, during and after, for example. I used it as a tool for self observation as well. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Opened my eyes. I highly recommended it

I love the book because it opened my eyes to a lot of self-destructive thoughts and behaviors that I had and made me think about the past relationships and interactions from A New Perspective. To really look at what my fears were and what my actions were creating. In the process of listening to it again and absorbing the lessons.
