Story
When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

Publisher's summary
Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad's old costume, Elle's determined to win - unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons - before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake - until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?
Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Fresh new take on the Cinderella tale
I'm what you would call an older woman :-), but I always love a good Cinderella spin off. This book was a nice and well done. The storyline was modernized and well written. If you were looking for a light fun read this is it. Regarding the audiobook though, there are a lot of editing errors, such as repeated sentences. But I easily overlooked those as I enjoyed the story so much.

Bad editing
The story itself is a fun spin on a classic Cinderella story. The editing of the audio book however definitely needs working on. Multiple times there are lines which are repeated for no reason and other bad editing notes.

Very Adorkable :D
I really enjoyed this story more that I expected .. it was such a breath of fresh air to me and it's been a while since I was last immersed myself in a story like that .. it made me smile the kind of smile that made my cheeks hurt and I still kept smiling, I LOVED the main characters Elle and Darien and I was shipping them so hard that I finished the whole book in one day
I did have a problem with the audio quality, I noticed there were a lot of repeated sentences and the male narrator sometimes forgets to say some words, but overall this book was amazing and highly recommended

A Charming Cinderella Story, More than Just a Retelling
Poston does a brilliant job of lovingly grafting the odds and ends of contemporary geek culture over the age-old tale of Cinderella. We all know the story, and all the re-imaginings can easily come off as worn and tired. But Poston's retelling, like any good fairy tale told and retold over time, gives us the heartbeat of the time and space from which it springs. The writing is brisk and humorous, and the characters are constructed with care and wit. Stevens and Morris provide solid performances, and their voices serve Poston's narrative brilliantly. I enjoyed it immensely!

Drawn out and got too annoying
Rarely have I fast forwarded an audible just to stop the pain of a story being drawn out to no end, but this was a first out of over 100 books.
I just couldn’t take the wimpy main character watching her stepsisters taunt her with her mothers clothes and these are teenagers. No taking it back, no threatening to harm them over the district of her dead mother’s most prized possession. I just can’t, too unrealistic considering the entitlement of all the teens in the book. Smh

Warning: You will fangirl/fanboy over this book
As a geek myself, I fangirled with every chapter just like how Elle would fangirl over Starfield. I loved the references and understood all but one. My favorite thing was how well I could relate to Elle and Darrien(?) with their passion and love for Starfield. It made me feel like I was right there with them watching and understanding the show. The narration for Darrien took me a while to get used to but once you really get into the book it becomes perfect and flows well with the book. Otherwise an amazing book and I can't wait to listen/read it again in the future.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd absolutely recommend this book it's a very entertaining listen.
What about Eileen Stevens and Tristan Morris ’s performance did you like?
They were generally very good, but someone should have made sure they both knew how to pronounce some of the words associated with the geekdoms the characterd talked about - I mean not knowing how to pronounce Dalek is a pretty obvious mistake.

Cute and well crafted
I liked this so much :) Especially all the Cinderella characters brought back to contemporary times, and the vegan food truck beeing a magic pumpkin, and Hollywood actor beeing a prince, and Cinderella beeing a nerdy sci-fi fan and so on :) Overall It was very cute and nicely written.

excellent listen
this story is a modern day retelling of Cinderella. the book will appeal to and is suitable for anyone who's hit double digits, young teens, young adults and adults who love reliving a classic set in a modern age. there a few times the book repeats a few words due to the editing but it's nothing major and doesn't 'spoil' anything. Elle does have a few character flaws but show me a teenager that doesn't, especially a 17/18 year old who's lost both parents very young and left with the evil step mother and sometimes socially awkward. besides, along with the story the book is about teenagers learning and growing, finding inner strength all while trying to navigate their way through life. the story has a definite inclusive vibe to it. the performance from both narrator's was great.

The voice actor for Elle is amazing, but...
Elle as a character is EXTREMELY annoying when it comes to Darian. She's very judgemental and entitled with regard to him. However, character flaws overall are not a problem I guess, so that's just a personal gripe.

A great book with two amazing voices at the helm
This was such an amazing story that had me cry, laugh and fall in love with a majority of the characters. And listening made it more real with the actors used to voice them. I only wished they could voice all books :D looking forward to listening to book 2 and hope we see some cameo appearances.

Lovely modern retelling of Cinderella
Really nice interpretation! A few repeated sections in the male character's sections, but the story was good enough for that not to matter too much.

Great story , but so-so narration
This was a really cute story and I loved the female narrator, but the male narrator made so many mistakes, including mispronouncing "dalek" wrong not once but twice! I didn't feel he was right for the part, but overall a sweet Cinderella retelling that will make you smile.

Great read
What made the experience of listening to Geekerella the most enjoyable?
The perspectives and the two actors were phenomenal, I really enjoyed the change of pace present in each new chapter
What other book might you compare Geekerella to, and why?
Unenchanted by Chanda Hahnn is similar with the strong sassy female lead who may not necessarily understand everything but still powers forward.
Which character – as performed by Eileen Stevens and Tristan Morris – was your favourite?
Sage was so sassy and I really appreciated the LGBT+ representation
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I tried to listen to this in one hit but i fell asleep, I just NEEDED to know what happened

absolutely great listen/read
I am a massive fan of the Cinderella stories and variations of this. This is just another fabulous version. If you love fairytale retelling then this is for you.
This reminds me in parts of the movie a Cinderella story with a twist of adding distance, movie star and fandom of a TV series.
it's a great listen and would highly recommend.

So nerdy
The first time my partner couldn't stop listening to a romantic novel with me. He (and I) loved all the nerdy references. Very fun.

Fun spin on a classic tale
Overall the story was entertaining with the easy rhythm of a well known story. The new world it is based in is well thought out.
Performance is good. There are a few errors where lines are repeated. But the two narrators help build the two sided story lines

Cute little Cinderella retelling
Overall, it was a nice take on a classic story. The split perspective worked well and the con setting was very endearing. Darien’s parts had some lack of editing with multiple lines being repeated twice - presumably with the intent to only leave in one of the takes. It was a minor issue though, very easy listen otherwise

Fun listen
Enjoyed this light-hearted read. Has all the beats you expect but you enjoy the ride anyway. That narrators were both excellent. Whenever Eileen Stevens exclaimed "Danielle!" as the evil step mother I could have died from cringing. Perfect. There was, however, some issues with the recording where lines were repeated multiple times. Other than that, loved this nerdy retelling of this classic.

Fairytale meets Sci-Fi
I loved this book! Fairytale meets Sci-fi pop culture, with some name drops of big starts thrown in helps to really immerse yourself in the story, leaving you to feel like it's happening right now.
like a good old fairytale the bathroom scene made me cry. Not sure if we got our happily ever after or not but I guess it leaves it open for another adventure?
Was disappointed that Elle took her dog on the red carpet, felt a bit pretentious of her, not sure that that fit with her character?
I marked the performance of this book down a star because it was a bit glitchy where some of Dorian's lines would be repeated over.

No one would ever suspect that responsible, ugly-sweater-wearing Ingrid North is the incognito radio deejay known only as Niteowl. Finally a high school grad, she can't wait to get out of her tiny hometown of Steadfast, Nebraska (population 347), to chase her dreams. Thankfully her three best friends - Billie, LD, and Micah (who she is definitely, absolutely not in love with) - are more concerned with spending one last epic summer together than finding out where Ingrid slinks off to every weekend.
