Publisher's Summary

Garm trained her whole life as a member of the secretive Quadrad organization. Her planet is famous for its assassins and governmental manipulators. It’s whispered that behind every mysterious death lurks a Quadrad. But when Garm enters the wide galaxy, she finds her prestigious training entirely insufficient.

Most Quadrad are abysmal failures, unable to cope in an advanced technological empire. The Quadrad are nothing but a very clever marketing campaign that has been going on for 20,000 years. But Garm is different. She is determined to be the most successful, most lethal, and richest “agent of change” in history. To that end, she assembles the best spaceship crew she can afford. Unfortunately, she is extremely poor. Her ship is a former pleasure cruise vessel, the Summer Dream Adventure. And her crew is made up of ancient relics, war criminals, incomprehensible aliens, nymphomaniacs, and creatures so dangerous, just being near them can prove fatal. To make matters worse, Garm is personally being hunted by the government, which seeks to forcibly put an end to the Quadrad myth forever.

How is this book 8?

How is this book 8? Feels like a spinoff here. Huge step down from original Hank series…

If you are looking for a Hank Story don't bother.

Lacking the hilariy that the Hank stories brought. Story is bland in comparison
and bit off putting.

Not my fav

I'll admit, I love the Hard Luck Hank series, I was hoping that this was somehow going to tie into it vs being a one-off how Garm got into the Navy story. Sadly, it's that. While it wasn't a terrible story (I did finish it! I was tempted to quit, but figured I'd go until the end, which I did and honestly thought it got better.), it wasn't a Hard Luck Hank book.

I eagerly anticipate the next one, just not one of these.

I can't do it.

the narrator may should have at least listened to any of the previous book to know there is a right way things where pronounced. It is so annoying I can't even give the story a chance.

great start on new series

If you are a hard luck Hank fan, this is a must-have. it's a fun continuation in the same universe, and Garm is wonderful! I can see many many novels that are uniquely Garm, as well as several of Hank's adventures told from a different point of view, oh, and giving a completely different take on what REALLY happened. This is going to be a wild ride and I'm looking forward to it.

WTF!?

Not sure why they picked a narrator that sounds like she is 90 years old! Ruined the whole book.

Was hoping for much more

As an avid reader of Hard Luck Hank books this was the potential of a good spin off story yet I think it's fails for me in multiple ways but the main is the narration. I am sure this reader is find for other styles but it is a total let down for this series. The simple fact that race names etc are not adhered too from the previous books is utterly painful to listen too. Also it seems I already know what Garm sounds like from the other books and it makes it almost annoying to listen too.

Honestly a bummer overall, I really need Hank back with the previous series reader. I would pass on this if you are looking for anything Hank related for the most part. I am not sure this deserves the book 8 title for this series. Maybe more like 7a or a sub series.

Terrible narration

I found this book because I love the hard luck hank series and I’ve been looking for more by Steven Campbell. The narration for those books was fantastic and made the story 10 times better. By comparison this book was a big let down, the voice just does not suit the characters and that makes it hard to get into the story. I realize that you have to use a different narrator since its female garm speaking instead of male hank, but there has to be better options

This is a Garm book!

Hank is not in this and it is not a Hank type book. It is a decent stand alone. Knew this going in. Love Hank but this is pre space station. Good to learn Garms background. Just named our new puppy after her! Drags at times but worth the price.

Great story, narrator pronunciation kinda weird

The story is great, having more reference to the world and universe the stories take place in is fantastic. The narrator pronounces some of the alien names different from the narrator of the main series, which is kind of distracting. They do a great job otherwise and I look forward to hearing more from them.
