But in a post-apocalyptic time when mankind is in ruins and on the verge of self-destruction, Cross works in his father's subterranean cobra farm, tries to avoid getting involved in the turf war between his town and the Southern Basin, wondering if his future will ever be anything but bleak.

When a group of aliens appears by surprise and invites a select group of humans to join them, it could be Cross's chance to not only find his own place in the universe, but to also help prove that humanity is good for more than just violence.

Highly entertaining

Scott Meyer brings his unique brand of humor to this story, leading to a steady stream of unexpected dialogue and twists. Fans of his "Basic Instructions" webcomic will love this.

It opens with a post-apocalyptic setting, referencing the never-explained "Bad Week." I'm not much for post-apocalyptic literature, but the author is so funny I would have listened to the entire novel if that had been all. Instead, most of it is science fiction.

What can humanity offer the greater universe? Brutality.

I also appreciate the author creating more diversity, in physical form and motivation, amongst the alien races than are ever seen in most sci-fi movies.

Entertaining characters and a well told, intetesting premise as always! Outstanding narration, as I've come to expect!

Great book and narration, but....

Loved the story and narration overall. Unfortunately the main character, Cross, was given the most whiny, annoying voice, which you have to hear all the time. All the other character voices are great, but hopefully they'll fix that in the next book if there is one!

A Fun Adventure

This is a fun adventure with quirky characters and situations. It remains entertaining throughout despite only having a few laugh out loud moments.
As with most comedic stories, it’s the side characters that actually make the book charming.
