LG Review - A Story That Completely Destroys Me (In the Best Way)

There really aren’t proper words to describe what this book did to me. I was sobbing—happy sobbing, sad sobbing, angry sobbing, hurt sobbing. This story is one emotional punch after another, and I loved every single moment of it.

Ilya will forever be one of my favorite MMCs of all time. Always. The book manages to wrap up so much while still leaving so many possibilities open, which felt exactly right for their story.

Update: I loved this the first time I read it, but after finishing the Heated Rivalry season one show, I immediately had to reread it—and somehow it was even better the second time. I love their story. I love them.

Book 4: Big Heart, Bigger Hits 🏒❤️‍🔥🥺

I absolutely loved Ryan! My gentle giant with a heart way too big for the game he plays 💔 He deserved so much better than being traded every season like a human shield. I kept wishing he’d land on a team that truly valued him (Ottawa, maybe? please?? 😭).

Now, Fabian... I had a harder time with him 😬 I get that his family’s obsession with hockey and constant neglect left scars, but projecting all that resentment onto Ryan, and basically every hockey player, felt unfair. None of that was his fault! Still, I liked seeing Fabian’s walls slowly crumble as Ryan brought real warmth and care into his life.

This book gave me so many what-ifs and emotions, but in the end, the most important thing is that Ryan finally got his peace and happiness. My man deserves the world 🥹💖


Book 5: The Fairy Gay Mother Strikes Again 🏒🌈💖

Totally loved Troy’s journey, not just redemption but acceptance. Watching him slowly open up, learn, and find peace after all that chaos? So satisfying 🥹 And baby Harris? Literal sunshine ☀️ He’s exactly what Troy needed: goofy, loud, kind, and impossible not to love.

But let’s be honest, Ilya Rozanov continues to be the fairy gay mother of every confused queer hockey player out there 😂💅 He’s singlehandedly building the foundation for every future coming-out story on the team, sprinkling chaos, sass, and support everywhere he goes. His heart is almost as big as Ryan Price’s.

Book 6: Thank you bookTok!

Shane and Ilya are back, and OMG, thank you bookTok for letting me know about this sequel because I would’ve missed out on ALL the feels! 😍 Their story has spanned over 10 years, and honestly, I spent most of this book with a goofy smile on my face. I mean, how could I not? Watching these two go from secret lovers to finally facing the reality of their relationship was everything I didn’t know I needed.

What I loved most is that this isn’t some whirlwind romance, they’ve put in the time. A whole decade! Which, let’s be real, makes their story feel way more authentic than those romances where people are suddenly soulmates after two weeks (I love those once in a while too, don't get me wrong, but this is better!). Shane and Ilya have been through it all, and seeing them decide between keeping their love hidden or risking it all for each other? Gah, my heart! 💖

But it’s not all sunshine and roses, Shane’s teammates were a real letdown, and don’t even get me started on the NHL head commissioner. What a jerk! 😤 And Shane’s coach? Wow, unsupportive is an understatement. Poor J.J. though, my heart went out to him. But honestly, all the tension just made the happy moments that much sweeter. The wedding at the end? Absolute perfection, like the cherry on top of an emotional sundae!

such a great series! these 3 books were absolutely amazing. they long game was by far my favorite book and brought the series full circle.
