About this listen
of, moral improvement suggested by Masonic teachings to which he did not aspire, and few to which he had not
attained. His life as a citizen, a statesman, and a patriot, the world has by heart; his career as a Freemason
is not less worthy of admiration and respect. In the
pressure of a long and doubtful war, when his faculties were concentrated in the never-ceasing details of command, he was ever ready to turn his thoughts to the
claims of a distressed, worthy brother, prompt to attend
Lodge meetings, happy to .respond to Masonic courtesies. The bust or portrait of Washington should be placed
conspicuously in every Lodge-room. Not only should we become familiar with those majestic features at our
dwellings, but, in conjunction, with the emblems of the
Lodge, they should appear the brightest and most significant emblem of them all.
