In Hold Me Tight, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond.

An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Each of us has a dual nature: we are light (conscious) and dark (unconscious). The dark side of our personality - the “other,” the shadow side - is made up of what we think is our primitive, primal, negative impulses - our “existential kink.” Our existential kink also drives the dark or negative repeating patterns in our life: always choosing the abusive partner or boss, settling for less, thinking that we’re undeserving, not worthy. But it also is the source of our greatest power.

What does it take for couples to sustain love? How can you deepen your relationship even when you and your partner disagree, fight, or let each other down? “Intimacy isn’t something you have. It’s something you do”, teaches Terry Real. “It’s a minute-by-minute practice of connecting to others through empathy, vulnerability, and accountability.” With Fierce Intimacy, this renowned author offers a revolutionary way of living in connection - one that allows you to cherish your partner, yourself, and your relationship in equal measure.

This is one of the most influential pieces of content that I have ever purchased. I have been giving this and sharing this with my entire extended network of professional men. I would estimate that 30 to 40 guys that I know, have begun work on themselves with the help of this content. The feedback that I received from the people I’ve shared this with who are going through it themselves mirrors my own incredible Journey with this content. Fierce intimacy, quite possibly saved my marriage. It certainly made me a better friend, father, and business leader.

If you can pick the gold out of the fat phobia, it’s gold.
Honestly, this might be one of the most useful and practical relationship books I’ve ever read. I just finished it and I’m about to immediately restart it.
The author is definitely fat phobic and often tells people they need to lose weight to get their lives together (which is bullshit if you’re familiar with any actual science). He also uses “fat” as an insult. But! If you can withstand the fact that he is human, and is still struggling to understand how fat phobia is harmful...then every other part of this book is amazing. There is 100x more awesome info in this book, than damaging anti-fatness. If your self esteem can take it, then definitely give the book a listen. It’s a game-changer...even if the author is an arrogant white dude ;)

Wow!....
I am currently the partner in a 20 year relationship in crisis. Our therapist recommended reading this book during our first session. Being an audible subscriber I immediately logged in and found the book, having no idea what I was about to embark on—the title was a little misleading. My husband has been reading it as well, although I devoured the book in 3 days he is listening at a more leisurely pace. That might be because I am the one in crisis, I am the one standing at the precipice of a chasm that looks a bit like divorce. Halfway through this book I said to myself...alone and out loud, “I wish I had read this book when I was 20, my life might have taken a different course.” I most certainly would have entered into relationships as a much more healthy person with a far greater understanding of what I was getting myself into. I loved the book so much I gifted it via Audible to my 26-year-old daughter in the hopes she might find enlightenment and understanding in her relationship and as a new parent. I would’ve gifted it to my son, but he doesn’t have an audible account and he hates reading books, but I certainly made a point of giving him the name and author. At nearly 32 years old I figured he could use it too, largely because he’s had several failed relationships and there might be something to that, lol. I highly recommend this book. It was like the awakening after reading Men are from Mars Women are from Venus back in the late 80s. It is imperative that we move our relationships into balance and equality. Whether my marriage works or not this book was well worth the read. In fact, I will probably read it over and over again as I “do the work” for myself so that either my current relationship is healthier or my next relationship is far better. Thank you Terry!

Compassionate Intimacy
This book is in true service to compassionate intimacy and living relationally.
If we connected with this in our teens and early adulthood, we would all be entirely different human beings in relationships today.
This is an ‘on the ground’ living model for higher ordered consciousness in partnered relationships- what, why, and how to.
A proactive and demonstrative model, it is proof that we can live intimately and lovingly while still subjective and polarised in our perceptions,.
Relational empowerment has a completely different vocabulary and completely different energy to personal empowerment.
It makes the road less travelled accessible, and takes the bypass out of spiritual.
Compassionate living is a courageous feat, and one of humanity’s inroads to Peace.
Fierce Intimacy is a rite of passage for all who desire good relationships and who are ready to go the journey to get there.

Essential reading for all humans
I loved this book. I loved that Terry Real read it too. It's brilliant. It would be hard to not like it. It covers pretty much everything you need to know to grow as a human and function well in relationships. In a down to earth and authentic way. Terry gets vulnerable and shares some of his own personal and relationship issues and you get that feeling that he's down there in the trenches with you. I've listened to it 3 times already. Do yourself and your partner a favour and listen to this book! I'll be giving hard copies to friends and family as gifts too.
