Publisher's summary

Virginia, 1927

Grace Langdon, a young woman from a Virginia mining town, is something of an outcast. Intelligent and foreword thinking, she longs for independence, love, and a life beyond the rural poverty surrounding her. When an old friend Charlie returns to town, she sees hope of a romance - until Charlie's dark side is revealed. Pressured into marrying against her will, she flees home and reunites with her estranged brother and his wife, now living in Chicago. There, she meets two very different brothers - Will Shaw, a charming and popular singer/dancer, and his older brother Henry.

Henry is a divorced war veteran living with mental and physical trauma from his time as a battlefield surgeon. He and Grace form a bond over shared experiences, but their relationship is tested by their individual demons - and by the return of someone from Grace's past.

thoroughly enjoyable.

Grace would love to mirror the life of Charlotte bronte's Jane Eyre. but she never expects to have anything out of the ordinary happened to her until she is forced to marry someone she doesn't doesn't love and leaves her small town in Virginia for the big city. Beautifully written in the style of the 19th century classic writers of the great romances, Miss Hawkins takes us on a wonderful and exciting new adventure as Grace finds out who she really is.

What a joy to listen to!

I started listening to The Grace Emancipation to help pass the time of a two hour daily commute. I quickly realized I couldn’t wait to get back in my car to continue. With 4 hours left of the enjoyment I came to the holiday weekend. I just couldn’t wait until Tuesday to continue. Wise choice I just finished listening and am happy I did. This book was delightful and kept my full attention to the very end. Highly recommend it! Thank you Charlotte! Can’t wait for more from you!
