Interesting storyline but probably best to read rather then listen

I'm always disappointed when the narrator attempts to do the accents, unfortunately the dodgy American and 'terribly posh' interpretation (which is constant for the characters) made it difficult to get into, i'm surprised they didn't ditch the accents. It's a shame as its a good story. I'm midway through but tempted to read the book instead.

Ok but not her best

I've enjoyed some of Evans' previous books. Her accessible writing and talent as an author of books that hook but are bereft of unutterable woe and miserable endings that I, as someone bedridden and too often in intolerable pain, cannot cope with; made her works ones I looked out for.

Sadly this did not capture my heart and mind or absorb as I had hoped or needed. It is pleasing enough and I'm sure will be popular with many, but it is plods rather and doesn't have the magnetism, charm and pull I'd hoped for.

A bittersweet and beautifully told story. Read with depth of the characters. An intelligent and enjoyable listen.

Good story- childlike narrator.

It was an interesting story- a love story type saga that spanned generations. The voice of the younger narrator was irritating however- rhyming 'book' with 'suck'?

Dual time period family saga wonderfully narrated

This mulit layered, dual time period family saga slowly unfolds towards the family secret reveal.

Contained a nice balance of characters in both periods who I enjoyed spending time with.

The narration only added to the experience. Highly recommended read for those who enjoy multi period historical saga, family secrets set in wonderful locations.
