Publisher's summary

America’s most-read, most-watched, and most beloved serial killer - Dexter Morgan - is back. After selling more than one million copies and inspiring the wildly popular number one Showtime series and top-rated crime drama on pay-cable television, New York Times best-selling author Jeff Lindsay returns with his most hilarious, macabre, and purely entertaining novel yet.

Dexter Morgan has always lived a happy homicidal life. He keeps his dark urges in check by adhering to one steadfast rule...he only kills very bad people. But now Dexter is experiencing some major life changes - don’t we all? - and they’re mostly wrapped up in the eight-pound curiosity that is his newborn daughter. Family bliss is cut short, however, when Dexter is summoned to investigate the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who has been running with a bizarre group of goths who fancy themselves to be vampires. As Dexter gets closer to the truth of what happened to the missing girl, he realizes they are not really vampires so much as cannibals. And, most disturbing...these people have decided they would really like to eat Dexter.

Jeff Lindsay’s best-selling, dark, ironic, and oftentimes laugh-out-loud hilarious novels about the lovable serial killer with no soul (but a redeeming desire to kill only people who deserve it) have gained a legion of fans and assumed a place in our culture.

More dastardly deeds desired? Listen to more Dexter.

Actually a 3 - but nice effort

This is the best Dexter book since Dearly Devoted Dexter. The last few have fallen flat - but this one was fairly solid and is a completely different story line from the TV show (which is good). The plot was fairly transparent and there were no surprises - but it was a nice ride with a good main character. Again - rated as a 4 because I came into it with such low expectations - but it's actually a 3.

Great read

Where does Dexter Is Delicious rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you love the show you will love the Book.

What did you like best about this story?

I felt that it was more of the show.

What about Jeff Lindsay’s performance did you like?

His reading put me to sleep. I love the story but had a hard time staying awake. His voice put you in this places that you could relax.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not the best Dexter

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

If I knew they enjoyed the previous Dexter books, yes. Otherwise, no, it's not the place to start.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It felt forced, and a little too random. It's hard to be specific without giving spoilers.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Lindsay’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I've read the previous books, but this is the first one I have listened to.

Do you think Dexter Is Delicious needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I already know it has more than one!

Any additional comments?

As Dexter books go, this one was a little weak. It's always nice to hear the author read his own work though, as it gives you an insight as to how they see the characters and events.

Predictable

This is an entertaining book, but my least favorite so far. It's just too predictable.

Not as interesting or tense as the show...

I am a big fan of the Dexter show, thought i'd give one of the novels a try. The characters in the novels are clearly slightly different people -- but that's okay. Dexter is still a very interesting character here. Deb is not quite as fleshed out or likable a person in the novel as she is in the series. However, my basic problem with this is the plot. It's just not as interesting, reflective, frightening, or clever as the show. I saw every twist coming from MILES off. Respect to Jeff Lindsay, he's created a great character, and he does an admirable job as narrator, but the characters in this novel drive THROUGH the plot, as opposed to driving the plot forwards. The characters do the things they must to move them from one situation to the next, as opposed to having characters work against each other, which is what makes the show interesting.

Dexter IS Delicious!

The book was fabulous. Wish this season of the show could have followed this story line. Well worth the time....

Where oh where is Nick Landrum?

I love Dexter. I love Jeff Lindsay's writing. I loved Nick Landrum's narration. The combination gave me the creeps when I would listen to the books while out for a walk in the dark. It would give me the creeps when I listened to it in the car. It made the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I listened to it anywhere. Without Landrum, a whole lot of the creepiness is gone. Shame on Jeff Lindsay for ruining a perfect combination. Stick with the writing and leave the narration to Dexter's real voice, Landrum. I liked the book but I've already decided I won't listen to the next one if Lindsay reads his own work. That's why I only gave it 3 stars. Landrum really made Dexter delicious

I just ate it up!!!!!

If you gotta be bent to love Dexter, then I'm bent. I got hooked on Showtime's Dexter and during hiatus I bought the first two books. I read them in a matter of days. Then, I signed up for Audible and Dexter books were some of my first purchases. Well worth the $/credits. The stories are full on Dexter, but diverge from the storyline on the TV series, so you are never sure where Jeff is going to take us next. There's actually more depth to Dexter's charater in the books than on TV and the humor is even more pronounced than on TV.

Gotta have my Dexter! Can't wait for the next book!

Dexter Is Delicious

I found the book very good reading and listening to. The narator was the same as the T V show and quite humerous to listen to. I thought the naration was very good and the story is a hoot. Dexter can certainly get into trouble without evern trying. It was nice to have his brother and his sister in the book from start to finish. Quite a story.
