Publisher's summary

The second in the multi-author, post-apocalyptic blockbuster series

Detention camps, curfews, food shortages, and a deadly virus...and that's only the beginning.

America is in turmoil. The running of the country has been completely taken over. Thousands of people have been detained, many still suffering the effects of the bombings, and with no release in sight.

When local farmer, Joe, finds his town overrun with foreign soldiers, he immediately begins to stockpile his produce, preparing for what might come. Workers arrive to take over the running of his farm, but he eventually discovers something more sinister at play.

On the other side of the country, Cal is facing his own problems and must make a difficult decision that could put his life in danger.

There are whispers of a resistance in the air, but what will the cost be?

OMG HOW LONG BEFORE THE NEXT BOOK???

I have probably over 100 books in my Audible library but I write few reviews however, I had to take the time to review this book as well as book 1 of the series. These books are not like any of the other post apocalyptic books I have listen too, it’s a completely different premise but it’s great! I listened to book 1 and 2 in two days and I cannot wait for the third book to be available!! I highly recommend this series!

Terrible author, awful book

Skip the entire series. Most everything designed by committee is trash and this is no exception. Devon C. Ford sets up something that could be a good series and it loses all steam after that. This book goes from bad to worse.

She basically abandoned everything that made the first book interesting and incorporated her own absolutely awful characters focusing more on half cooked relationships, awful character development and I am not kidding, weight loss and dieting which could have been relevant except that she has no idea what she's doing. I'm amazed that she's a professional writer.

I'm shocked that any of this made it past an editor, especially all of the drivel about the awful Pierogi Parties. Hey Jacqueline, someone should have told you that the plural of pierogi is pierogi's and the plural of bungee is bungee's.

It's one of the worst stories I've ever heard and definitely one of the worst books ever written. Can't believe I actually bought it, should've been a freebie in the plus catalog at most.

I wish I could return this

I usually avoid spending a whole credit on a book this short. But the first one felt so tightly compacted and well woven together I thought it might be worth continuing the second book. Wrong.

If you liked the suspense, characters, and build up of the first book written by a competent author, then definitely avoid this book. I forced myself through an hour and a half of poorly developed nonsense before giving up.

All the characters from the first book are killed off or horribly maimed in favor of new characters. The time slips are sudden, inexplicable, and the intervening periods are poorly explained.
And the cool and intelligent antagonist orchestrating the whole attack from the first book becomes something akin to a Bond villain.

I actually did a double take when I first purchased, because it said it was the next book in the series, but was written by a completely different author.
Sadly, this author took whatever notes provided, read them, then decided to pull a “The Last Jedi” to break expectations. And subsequently broke the story in half.

Avoid.

Annoying narration issues

I stuck with this because I enjoyed the storyline. But as with the first book, the narrator cannot keep his accents/voices straight. Sometimes someone is British or American Southern, and in the same sentence, the accent switches off. Sometimes switches to a Boston accent and then quickly switches to something else. Even if the narrator didn’t realize he was doing this, I’m so confused as to how this wasn’t caught and corrected in production. I hate giving a negative review when the story is actually entertaining and the writing is good. But the accent issues bothered me (and impossible to ignore) throughout the entirety of both books.

Could have been better

The first book set a great stage this was bla in comparison….. a bunch of new characters . This is what happens when you have play pass the story. And this is as so short more like half a book.

Really

I tried to like this book but nope. This book had the dumbest characters…I think the author missed the classes in psychology… sorry maybe you will get it next time,

Pretty Thin on "How"

The storyline is entertaining but lacks serious credibility in how! Books seems to just "end".

Nonsense story

it is the most childish, naive, load of tosh I have ever had the misfortune to listen too. Avoid like the plague. Completely unbelievable.

Loving the series

I am just binge listening to the series and love the idea that it is written by different authors. The series is strangely addictive, combination of interesting story and great narration.

Straight onto book 3.

Again great benefit of audible plus get to find new authors/narrators/series at no cost apart from time.
