Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author TJ Klune invites you back to the land of Verania in a new collection of short stories starring the beloved characters from the Tales of Verania series.

In the opening story - "The Unicorn in the Tower" - Gary is a princess trapped in a stone tower by the evil Lady Tina DeSilva, who plans on sacrificing him on the first full moon after his 18th birthday. With help from his friends - a bird named Tiggy and a mangy weasel called Sam - Gary interviews potential suitors to rescue him and love him above all others, as he so rightly deserves.

"The Unicorn in the Tower" is followed by "Sam and the Beanstalk", wherein a poor farm boy exchanges his family’s bull for magical beans and the promise of treasure in the sky. But when he climbs the beanstalk, Sam finds things are not as he expected them to be.

"The Good Boy" sees Todd and his immaculate ears taking center stage. When Todd’s father dies, he leaves his son in the care of his evil stepmother and two stepsiblings who live to make Todd’s life a living hell. It’s not until the household receives an invitation to attend a ball for the mysterious Sir that Todd begins to wish for a life beyond what he knows.

"David’s Dragon", the final - and only canonical - tale, is set a thousand years before the rise of the dark wizard Myrin. It begins simply: a lonely boy in a small village befriends a dragon. What follows is a story of love and sacrifice, hope and heartbreak, and what it means to earn your place amongst the stars.

Welcome back to Verania. It’s going to be a hell of a ride.

Utterly Brilliant!

Without having read the rest of the Verania books this would be a ridiculously funny collection of stories. Having read them all this is more than icing on the cake. This was a silly love note to the series and the fans. So ridiculous and pushed the envelope JUST enough. TJ is a master at making you feel feelings through the tears. Laughter & otherwise. This was nothing short of perfection.

The best book you'll buy

Honestly wasn't expecting much from it, thought it was just going to be another retelling of classical stories but after the first 10 minutes into it, I knew this was going to be something special. I was not let down in any of the stories. It was funny, endearing, and the characters fit their roles perfectly. 10/10 I would recommend to others.

Just so much fun!

I can't get enough of the way TJ Klune writes (hilarious, childlike, soul ripping, complex, sultry, lazer life) and the way Michael Lesley performs (intresting, wide range of lavish vocal play). Buy it and laugh, let your heart break (just a little) and enjoy the bawdy, licentious ride.

Laugh and sob

If you have read the rest of the tales of Verania you will love this. Lovely little almost fan docs of his own characters. Beware: that last one is a doozy and I was sobbing at work unexpectedly. My heart. #haveheart4life

Oh man. Laugh and cry

One story in particular is the best of all. I cried sooo hard. You’ll know which one when it starts

DARN YOU TJ KLUNE

I love this series and I am annoying anyone who would listen to me on I love this series. every time I think, "there's NO way this series can get better" TJ Klune seems to hear me and goes, "Oh, you silly man you.... here's this!" Love this because it shows Klune's different styles of writing from comedy to dramatic. this feels like a love letter from Klune to his fans like me

All the stars for A Boy and his Dragon

Had read this when it first came out. The first four stories are the usual Veranian zaniness we all know and love. The last one is in a category of its own. It shattered me when I read it and I bought the audiobook later just to listen to a narration of the same. IMHO, it’s the best thing TJK has ever written. It will always stay with me. Don’t miss it!

I love these characters

This world is so wonderful. These fairytales were fun and original, but filled with our favorite characters. I especially loved Todd's story, a Cinderella retelling.
