Publisher's summary

Llynmore Castle is the only place Annabel Lockhart has ever considered home. For years, she's been able to live as she wished, freely roaming the wild moors. Now there's a new earl, as arrogant as he is handsome, and he wants her out. But if he thinks she'll go quietly, he's in for a surprise.

Theo Townsend returned from war a changed man. After unexpectedly inheriting an earldom and a secluded castle in the Scottish Highlands to go with it, he thinks he's found the perfect place to hide from the world—until he arrives to find a spirited, beautiful woman already in residence. He can't just throw her out, but surely there's a way to get her to leave on her own. The sooner she's gone, the better, especially when he realizes there's more than just mutual dislike between them.

Contains mature themes.

Wow

I read this in almost one sitting (a girl has to take bathroom breaks). It’s a wonderful book dealing with loss and the trauma of war. The MMC has visible and invisible scars received fighting in the Napoleonic War. Unexpectedly he inherits an old Scottish estate with a castle, where he plans to hide away from society for the remainder of his life. His three siblings insist on coming with him. However when they arrive they find a free-spirited woman and her aunt living there, courtesy of the late earl. Although they have no where else to go, he plans to help find them a place - anywhere but there.
The author deals masterfully with the pain of horrific memories and PTSD. It’s beautifully written with sensitivity and honesty.
There are wonderful secondary characters as well, so I’m looking forward to reading their stories.
The narrator has a unique but pleasant accent and does a great job.
