Showdown in Fall Creek

If there's anyone thinking of listening to this 5th book in the 'Edge of Collapse' series without prior knowledge of the rest of the series, I strongly advise you to read/listen to the first 4 books before venturing into this one. Kyla Stone does give some rudimentary information about characters and previous situations here, but not enough to let it stand alone, in my opinion. Plus, you may consider my review to be spoiler-y for the series.

Tensions are about to boil over between the residents of Fall Creek and Rosamond and the militia. Hannah, Liam, Quinn and the other townspeople prepare to eliminate the despotic Rosamond and her minion militia members. Noah continues to purposely turn a blind eye and deliberately deny the truth of what's happening to his town. Which side will win? Who will survive?

There's as much action and suspense here as is typical for a post-apocalyptic story. Kyla Stone has a gift of building tension in her writing. I have to say though, it's all about the character development for me. Here are some thoughts on the characters:

Hannah being held captive for 5 years should have broken her but her spirit and determination stay strong. My hand-down favorite post-apocalyptic hero is Liam. A man who previously felt undeserving now accepts the respect and love of an entire town. I fear Quinn has some tough times ahead due to the emotional trauma endured during recent months. She's got a tough exterior but is very vulnerable inside. I can't help but love Milo too. He doesn't let his disease define him. He's got bravery to spare. Noah just makes me sigh and shake my head. Kyla Stone does a wonderful job giving the reader a glimpse into Rosamond's motivations. It makes her become more than a one-dimensional villain.

I hope the previous paragraph conveys, in its roundabout way, how great Stone's writing is. She delivers a believable plot with complex characters that draw the reader in completely.

I enjoyed the ending of this book too. Stone has a tendency to cliffhanger her endings, but not so with this one. This installment's main storyline is concluded in a nice place. There is a short epilogue that does a good job of setting up what is to come in Book 6. I'm looking forward to it.

A riveting performance is provided by the stellar voice of Stacey Glemboski. She helps Stone's characters feel like real-life people.

This series gets better and better! it was a fast paced edge of my seat listen and as always another great cliff hanger...ugh! I love these characters so much!

I legitimately love this series. I am an army special ops vet and I truly appreciate Kyla’s mind. The narrator is one of my favorites too. The twisted gnarled story continues to increase my interest. Please continue to write more Kyla. Thank you.

On the Edge of My Seat!

The character development helped me to better understand each character and the choices they made.
It took awhile to get used to the character switching chapters. But I get it now. Now done with Book 5, I have already downloaded Book 6.
This story is not a happily ever after, but there is hope and love mixed in with the need for survival. I just hope this story is not prophetic about our future!

Absolutely hated Noah by the middle of this book

I had high hopes for Noah, but I feel no pain by the end.

Always have been team Liam.

This brought a lot of the story lines to a close, by yet kept it open for more.

You have to start at book 1 for it to pull you in.

whoa!

this whole series is amazing. I bought 1 book and bought the rest shortly after. i cannot wait till the next book. Only knock i had.. was very small... very..... very....small. a glock 19 holds 15+1... HOWEVER... IT CAN TAKE G17 MAGS.. which hold 17+1. Spec op guys would want a flush fitting mag on their service pistol and maybe carry a 17 mag as back up. lol but the story and narrator are an awesome combination.. book was amazing 👏

Just When You Thought the End was Near

I was given this free review copy audio-book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of Edge of Defiance: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller-Edge of Collapse, Book 5 by Kyla Stone and narrated by Stacey Glemboski. So, as we have worked through the local issues with the current batch of very bad people…, and resolved the current crises, and thought the story was coming to an end. Voila: enter the anarchists and the story continues! Very good story line with consistent character development and follow through. Stacey is the voice of this series. Her narration is flawless!

I completely enjoyed this book & the whole series! The narrator is wonderful, one of my favorites! The story line is completely believable. The characters draw you to their lives. I highly recommend this book!
