But with dangerous conditions and roving gangs, getting there seems like an impossible dream. It also seems like their only choice.

After the polar shift.

A little slow for me, I understand that this is a trilogy, but I don't think I'm interested enough to go for the other books. The story moved a little slow for me. and I did not find any character that I really liked that much.
This is an unbiased review of a book I received for free.

First time I have seen this take on apocalyptic

I really liked this listen/read. The many characters were completely fleshed out. The story moved along nicely and believable pace. I found only one thing I was out of sorts with. It ended on a cliff-hanger! But that left me wanting more. I WILL be listening/reading the rest of this series. I highly recommend this book to all those that like Post-Apocalyptic stories. Was hoping for more apocalyptic peril

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

The earth's poles have shifted and caused The Big Winter. Nathan and Cynthia have a son named Tony and a baby on the way. Public services in their hometown of Glen Falls are shutting down, so the family hits the road (with some friends and strangers) to find a larger city where they could receive medical help for the pregnancy and for Tony's asthma.

There is no character development. Nathan's thoughts seem juvenile and include odd metaphors and similes that only detract from the story rather than add to it. Nathan also keeps having to repeat his mantra "family first," so that he doesn't forget the importance of helping his family over strangers, which just seems bizarre. Particularly because (while described in a very cheesy fashion), he clearly loves his family.

No one seems particularly alarmed about what's going on around them. The plot is not interesting until one particular scene near the end. The characters they meet along the way are flat and don't add to the story.

Good storyline but....

Hmmm... I hate to be negative because I think this is a good book. It was just so boring and I don't think it's due to the story but more due to the narrator. He was a little monotone... had to stop listening. Sorry.

Freezing Point

The first in the series and it is pretty good!I did not fall in love with any of the characters.I found Nathan rather childish for a grown man.I have no idea how dealing with a climate change apocolypse would affect a normal man. A good story. A great premise.

I am a huge fan of the flood of post apocalyptic fiction we have today. This was no exception. I love the story and the dedication to family. The fact that, knowing these areas since I drive over the road, I could imagine the hardships and dangers they faced. The story was wonderful, if I can only say one thing that isn't a rave review, it's that the narration left a bit to be desired. Other than that, great job. Pick this up if you are looking for a great PA fiction thrill ride!

The North Pole moves south!

In an interesting, even unique plot twist, the east coast of the United States now resembles Alaska. Whether from global warming or the stars changing positions, the jet stream has moved, and the North Pole has moved to the mid-Atlantic. The Tolley family is trapped in the polar wilderness called New York. People are fleeing south to a hopefully warmer climate. They have also heard of an oasis in Detroit, where hydroponics supply food and it is somewhat warmer; perhaps due to the Great Lakes effect. This first volume of the series chronicles the Trolley’s as they traverse the barren landscape, surviving the bitter cold, blizzards, gangs, food and fuel shortages. maybe this genre isn't for me

I got this book for free and leave this review of my own accord.

this book was fine. I've only read a couple books so far that are SHTF scenario type post apoc stories so I don't if they all read similarly, but this one was vary similar to the other one, the name of which I cannot recall offhand. Plus each having similar situations (pregnant wife, person with dementia who is unable to travel, family with a single child and the dad's bamf friend, etc) seems strange though it's probably just a coincidence.

The story was fine. the characters were fine. The plot was fine. But none of it was compelling. The story ended in a very stranfe place. I guess it's supposed to be a cliffhanger, but I'm definitely not hanging on. As I said in the title, maybe this genre isn't for me. It wasnt bad, but I won't bother with the sequel.

If stories of this genre are your thing, probably add a star to my rating.

Although a bit slow starting, I think this was a decent book. The narrator is kind of dry, though, which I thought was a big contributing factor. That aside, it was still a decent book. I got used to the dry narration after a couple hours and it stopped bothering me. I'm on the fence whether or not I will continue the series.

Post apocalyptic

I found this slow going at the beginning and it did not grab me at all. I also found that there was no urgency in this type of genre. It has promise but it is not for me.
Others might like it more than I did.
