Survival of the fittest becomes harsh reality in the blink of an eye.

After an EMP attack, Greg Healy must safely navigate his daughter and estranged father through the treacherous Canadian wilderness to reunite with those holding down the family’s ranch, where frightening responsibilities have fallen on his son’s seventeen-year-old shoulders. But more than miles separate them in this post-apocalyptic nightmare, as shocking secrets come to light and vicious adversaries threaten to tear apart the fractured family.

As the Healys struggle to overcome the distance between them, ruthless enemies amass against the family with one goal - take their resources by any means necessary. The ranch proves time and again to be an irresistible draw in a world governed by Old West vigilantism, forcing the Healys to face the most difficult decision of all.

Sacrifice the ranch or witness the destruction of their family.

Family relationships make the story

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This box set follows several different character groups throughout the story. The families and other relationships make the story for me - it's the relationships that make me want to keep listening for what happens next. The setting is interesting - the Canadian wilderness and a family ranch. There is a lot of adventure as part of the family is trying to make it's way home and encounters challenges and dangers along the way.

The narrator in this story is easy to listen to and keeps my attention.

Wanted to like this

Tried to like this book. Good value for 1 credit. But couldnt stop my eyes from rolling. Dude fights a mountain lion. Then butchers a whole cow in a afternoon. Lots of stuff like that. Everything is to convienent for a realalistic EMP series. Narrator did good.

It drew me in

I write this review with reference to the complete series. As the first book started, I struggled a bit to warm up to it. I’m used to a bit grittier apocalyptic story line, than what I was listening to. The characters, at first, seemed juvenile, as was the language, but, the storyline was well done.
As the series progressed, I found myself drawn to it, listening at every opportunity. The decisions made by the main characters were at times mind numbingly stupid, which is exactly how many inexperienced people would actually react…stupidly! The determination and resolve to survive, even by unconversant victims of an apocalyptic event, characterizes our ability to adapt, as a people.
Grace Hamilton is an accomplished author, and demonstrated how unprepared individuals can and likely will survive through their grit and determination. They will learn, or die.
Narration by Andrew Tell was well done.
Be it know that I received this series, free of charge, in reciprocity of a true and honest evaluation of the work presented.

So worth the listen!

EMP: Return of the Wild West is a well-written, gripping and thrilling post-apocalyptic EMP survival trilogy. The series met my highest expectation, with Grace Hamilton's realistic world-building and authentic characters. The story is addictive and totally engaging; from the very start, my attention was grabbed, and I was totally hooked. The storyline centers around the Healy family and finding a way to survive and face numerous challenges and threats. For Greg Healy, his father, Tuck, and daughter Emma, along with two other companions, Tommy and Eustace, a hunting trip in the isolated Canadian wilderness turns into an epic disaster. They're stuck in the middle of a remote location with their equipment no longer working. They must find a way to make it back home and reunite with the rest of their family. Back home, in Washington State, Tabitha, Greg's wife, and his son Darryl, Marion, his mother are confronted with perils of their own. They must find a way to gather enough supplies and protect themselves and their home from dangerous threats.

The story unfolded perfectly; it's well-plotted, exciting, and suspenseful, with enough moving pieces to make it unpredictable. I was definitely invested and rooting for the cast. Andrew Tell's narration made the story even more engaging. He portrayed the nuances of the characters' personalities, emotions, and intensity of the scenes, breathing life into Hamilton's words. Overall, Return of the Wild West was a gratifying and entertaining listen, one I thoroughly enjoyed.
