Publisher's Summary

A Duke in Retreat
Gina was forced into marriage with the Duke of Girton at an age when she'd have been better off in a schoolroom than a ballroom. Directly after the ceremony, her handsome spouse promptly fled to the continent, leaving the marriage unconsummated and Gina quite indignant.

A Lady in the Middle
Now, she is one of the most well-known ladies in London... living on the edge of scandal - desired by many men, but resisting giving herself to any one.

A Duchess in Love

Finally, Camden, the Duke of Girton, has returned home, to discover that his naïve bride has blossomed into the toast of the town... which leaves Cam in the most uncomfortable position of discovering that he has the bad manners to be falling in love - with his own wife!

Fun and entertaining listen!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because it was enjoyable and anyone who likes this genre will find it entertaining.

What about Justine Eyre’s performance did you like?

She has a lovely voice, she brings personality to each character and has appropriate inflections in her voice that accurately reflect the characters feelings. There are narrators I just can't stand, but this voice I could listen to all day.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I don't do much sitting. But I am lucky enough to work at home and when I work outside the home can take my ipod. So I did listen to this consistently and only turned it off to sleep.

Any additional comments?

Don't expect an earth shattering story line, it's fun and light hearted with characters that are flawed but undoubtedly likable.

Delightful Romance Weaving Conplex Web of Partners

Though this is primarily the story of Gina and Camden, who were forced to marry when Gina was 11, it is actually a light bit of "musical chairs" where husbands and wives who have abandoned each other come together and then break apart and then...find each other in different ways. Gina has spent her time becoming the gracious Duchess of Girton, while Cam has been sculpting nude statues in Greece. He comes home to England to annul the marriage, but of course it gets complicated. The love scenes between Duke and Duchess are particularly enjoyable for the way that Cam brings out the "wicked" side of the Duchess's personality. Meanwhile Gina's two close friends are pursuing complexities of their own between husbands and lovers. A delightful read.

THREE FRIENDS WITH MARRIAGE PROBLEMS BUT...

They're not the 'usual' type for those days they are funny and outspoken with each other and they've got plans on their marriages. It was a romantic, light, humorous, easy going romance with very likeable characters.

Worth a credit? Yes, and if you like EJ's books then you're gonna think so too, as for me she's an automatic download.

Simple, romantic and makes you feel all right...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is very well written and romantic, as all her books are.

What did you like best about this story?

When you just want to lose yourself in a story, in a simple, romantic story - that you know that everything is gonna be all right in the end, and is well written... What else could you ask for?

Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Well, I probably have, but in the moment I don't remember if I liked or not. I liked this one. I just fix in the memory the narrators that I REALLY like and those that I REALLY don't like. The in between, sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well, I stopped to listen and to read other books - but I am a multitasker - so I can not say that. So it doesn't mean anything. It's a very good book.

Any additional comments?

The Fairy Tale series is very good. In fact, until this moment I prefer those books to this, but I only read the first one, so it is not fair to compair...

ok

Eloisa James is sort of hit and miss with me. I like this story but didn't love it. Cam was a bit irritating since he was basically a selfish butthead. Gina was ok but what in the world did she she in that pratt of a Marquis? If you like James you will probably like this. Lots of secondary stories. A bit much.

Mixed Feelings

I am a big fan of Eloisa James and have read many of her novels; however, this is my first (and perhaps the last) of her audio books. I didn’t care for the voice of her most popular narrator so picked this one as an alternative.

The narrator has a lovely voice and the female voices were good for the most part, but I disliked most of the male voices, especially of the main male character, Camden. It was difficult for me to get to the end with that being the case but I liked the story so stuck with it.

Loved the Story, not so much the narrator

I enjoy all of Eloise's novels, some more than others but it was hard to get into this book due to the narrator. I didn't feel connected to the males in this story, especially the husband. I hated the way "Gina" was pronounced in intimate/emotional settings. You can't help but think it was Forrest Gump saying " Geena" instead of "Jenny". Other than that the story was great and follows different characters as well as Gina.

Narrator makes this for me unlistenable

I don’t like the nasally tone of the narrator. Almost like pretending to speak with British accent

Fantastic, Delicious, Wonderful - SO GOOD

Really loved it. Listened straight through for 12 hours because I fell in love with the story and the characters. Main couple are Geni and Camden, the Duchess and her Duke. They were forced into marriage when Geni was 11 years old and Camden jumped straight out of the window and ran away to Greece where he stayed for 12 years. Of course the marriage was never consummated. He comes back to England when Geni tells him she want an annulment so that she can marry a nobleman who loves her for her purity and beauty. The nobleman is a real stick in the mud moralistic man, but quite handsome, good, rich and in love with Geni. There are four main women characters in the book - .Genii and her 4 friends. All are married but not with their husbands for various reasons. There are 4 or 5 main male characters - the husbands and lovers of the 4 main women. There are many supporting characters, but they are all easily kept track of because they are so distinct. All are gathered at a house party where Geni and Cam are working out their annulment, and where everyone else is working out one thing or another. Great things are happening!!!

The Cam and Geni characters are beyond likable - I love them. Their passion is strong, but so is Geni's desire for her betrothed nobleman. The energy of the book is astounding and I was totally mesmerized. Don't miss this if you love a good passionate and complex romance. It is also performed masterfully by Justine Erye. She has a great reading style and gives all distinct voices. She is excellent with both male and female voices.
