From USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Hartmann comes an all-new standalone crossover romance filled with heartache and dreams.
Lexington Hall and I were never supposed to collide—he, the golden boy of Hollywood, and I, a small-town dreamer with stars in my eyes. But when we shared the stage in our high school musical, something ignited.
Then, just as quickly, it all fell apart, leaving my dreams in pieces.
Now, four years later, Lex is a household name, turning our past into a television sensation. He's spun our story for the world to see, while I'm still haunted by what we lost.
With millions obsessed over the "real" Stevie St. James, Lex reappears with an offer too tempting to turn down: a fake romance to keep the buzz alive, in exchange for the financial freedom I desperately need.
I convince myself I can play the part. But as old feelings resurface and new risks emerge, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur.
Dreams are easy to chase—but falling for the guy who shattered mine could cost me everything.
Narrated in duet style.

This book, while still containing trauma, it’s lighter than some of her other work, but she’s proven yet again why she’s my favorite author by moving me to tears, laughter, swooning, squealing, and everything in between. She has the ability to make her characters and their back story, so relatable even if you’ve never even been through a remotely similar experience.
Moulin Rouge themes throughout the story had my giddy and playing songs from the movie, on repeat!
Beautiful job!
She’s done it again!

No one does longing and heartbreak like Jennifer. This book tore me up and put me back together. I loved every aching moment of Lex and Stevie’s journey.
Stevie and Lex were beautifully complicated characters with so much depth. Their pain was so visceral and is going to be with me for a long time.
I love a broken MMC and Lex was so broken. Constantly betrayed by those closest to him and unable to find comfort in Stevie because of that trauma. My heart ached for how helpless he felt despite living what many would think of as a charmed life.
I loved Stevie. She was brave, strong, and fiercely loyal. I envy the courage it took for her to let Lex back into her life. I’m so glad it all worked out in the end but holy cow did Jennifer make them work for it.
I’m really hoping we get Joplin or Misty’s story next! I loved them and am really hoping they get their own HEAs.
I do think it is important to note that despite being designated as a YA book by the publisher that this is not a YA book. There is a lot of adult content and trauma in this book. Those familiar with Jennifer’s work won’t be surprised by the content, but I feel like new readers should know what they are getting into.

Hollywood golden boy, Lex, and small town dreamer, Stevie, met in high school when they both auditioned for a school play. Lex, having an acting background and Stevie, having dreams of becoming an actress, are cast together in a romance role. They’re complete opposites in every way. Stevie grew up on a farm, with a tight-knit family and Lex grew up in dark Hollywood with aloof parents. You know what they say about opposites…
4 years later, Stevie finds that her first love has written a show about her, and everything changes.
What I love most about this book is that the MMC is the one with the dark past. Lex was a troubled kid who grew up to be a troubled man. He never got a chance to be a child, and never learned how to heal from his past trauma, so much so that it created conflict and blurred lines between his relationship with Stevie.
I just wanted to reach through this book and give Lex a long hug. That’s what he needed. He needed to be shown trust and love, because he never got that with his parents. Truly broke my heart..
“I lean back and float across the water, staring up at the wispy clouds. So free. So peaceful. By society’s standards, I have it all, and here I am, jealous of the goddamn sky.”
Stevie St. James is a ball on sunshine. Small town girl, grew up on a farm with loving parents and a sister. She went through some trauma when she was younger, but doesn’t let it define her. She has such a positive outlook on life, and it’s refreshing to read that about a FMC. Usually the female is the one that’s going through something traumatic. In this case, she was the rock and the constant in Lex’s life. She’s exactly what he needed!
“I’d recognize him anywhere, in any form, in any reality.”
Their romance was everything! The chemistry between these two was palpable. Not only that, but the way they were each other’s strength, and was able to guide one another through healing and grief… Beautiful!
“I have two hands that will hold you forever, a voice that will sing to you until we take our last breaths, and eyes that will see you for all that you are, every day, every minute, just as you've seen me."
I usually don’t like the “miscommunication trope”, but in this case, it was written beautifully. It’s understandable that there would be some miscommunication regarding their relationship and boundaries, especially after being apart for 4 years.
And lord knows that I LOVE a second chance romance. There’s something SO sweet and so beautiful about it. It never fails to give me butterflies!
At this point, I’m just regurgitating everything I’ve previously said about Jennifer Hartmann’s writing. She’s brilliant. She knows exactly how to create angst, longing, and true romance!!
