Publisher's Summary

Accepting his dragon-shifting birthright will place a mark on Theo’s head. Can he level fast enough to survive?

Separated as a child from his family, Theo has always had a feeling that he’s made for something bigger than the suburban life he seems to be headed for. When a bully threatens his best friend, he can’t help but step in the way. The problem is that Theo’s just not much of a fighter.

Bruised and broken, Theo wakes up to a massive headache and what appears to be floating game text inviting him to become a dragon. While ludicrous, no matter how often he rejects the prompt, it simply returns. Knowing that his life can’t get any worse, he finally accepts...

And that’s when he’s finally exposed to the real world, filled with goblins, orcs, and dragons.

Having started at such a late point in life, Theo’s at a huge disadvantage starting at Level 1 and in extreme danger. As he soon learns from his squire, a woman who’s followed him in the shadows since birth, dragons are both jealous and territorial. The only way for Theo to survive is to embark on an epic quest to level up and to claim his rightful draconic heritage.

Drakon Prince is an exciting new LitRPG/GameLit novel from bestseller Jamie Mcfarlane, complete with goblins, dragons, elves, and orcs. The world includes game elements such as skill progression, user and weapon attributes, fortress building, soul shard currency, and much, much more for lovers of all things progression fantasy!

Terrible. Super Cringe.

Let me get this out first. This book is horrible. if I didn't know any better I would have thought the author was a very insecure young man. The book has so many problems.

The worse part is that the characters bring up the problems, but there is never any resolution. Like why are there video game prompts? Theo even says he feels like he's in a video game. The resolution to it? There is none. And then they just ignore it. It makes zero sense.

The book also feels harem-ish. Like Theo maintains his one love interest, but other female characters surround him and completely adore him. Also, this needs to be addressed, Genna is a very poorly designed character. Their relationship is very cringe. It's like the author has never actually been in a relationship and has only read about them from teen dramas. At one point Genna literally tells Theo SHE IS SHALLOW and the only way their relationship works is because he's a big strong dragon now and not a weak little human. Like what the hell. Seriously?

Then on top of that a lot of the book deals with Theo bragging about being a big strong dragon man. Ooooh so strong and tough. No longer weak bus boy, strong dragon. That, btw is another problem. The dragon angle is played up beyond cringe too. The whole book feels like it is written by an insecure young man wanting to play out his dream power fantasy. It's bad.

Then just to make things worse, there is a full character sheet and inventory readout at the end of every chapter. It gets pretty old pretty quick. I'm sure the statblock looks fine on paper, but that often in audio got really annoying.

Not need the point description at every chapter ending. The rest is good and interesting.

A litrpg story in one book! this is a gem

The boog is good, the story is entertaining, the rhythm is good
it had many litrpg elements without being crunchy (if you like a lot of math this book isn't for you)

my only complaint is that the MC stat sheet is presented a lot without any reason, apparently to increase the "word count" of the book, but besides that this is a good listen

Enjoyable Listen

I have had a relatively bad run of listening to newer LITRPG on Audible. Some being so cringe I couldn't even finish the book despite it being free.

This book was pretty enjoyable overall. It was by no means the best ever, and the damage prompts repeating over, and over, without any action between them at times distracted from the fights. But overall it was pretty well done.

The fights and tactics were decent and powers utilized not terribly for a beginner fighter, then dragon. Was a bit cringey how dragon stereotypes forced much of his actions later, but it didn't turn harem, which is a step in the right direction.

I would have listened to the second book if it were available.

Typical male who doesn’t take advice?

Why take advice from someone who has expertise? “I’ll listen to your opinion” right after ignoring chapters of advice. Manipulating that same person by threatening to take her out of the clan in the next sentence? Easily manipulated by the other woman like a tool. Not a fan of this type of MC.

don't waste your time.

the story was incredibly bad. spoiler alerts. well it happens pretty early. the MC is a level 1 character that somehow takes out much higher level characters immediately and has a harem, within the first few chapters. there's no development at all, sooo why is there game prompts? he's some kind of super special dragon kid and has soooo many plot armour moments that there's no sense of actual struggle, example he's at 1 hp and suddenly he gets this OP ability, recovers his hp and then takes out his enemy. Or he fights and easily kills an entire group of equally leveled characters with no issues. oh and his possessiveness was infuriating.

Really Fun litPRG w/Dragons & Orks

MacFarlane produced a super exciting and compelling story of a 98lb weakling with daydreams of getting the girl, who realizes All his Dream's and then some. From Earth to a fantasy world. From stick thin to draconis & dragon. From his best friend to his love interest. Drakon Prince is the start of a fun story arc that's worth the credit.

Dropped after 3 hours

I tried to give this book a good chance after that kind of start.
The main character is very juvenile and then seems to have no issue killing people that are other races on earth but look like normal people, then his crush ( she likes him too but he doesn't know) seems to love killing and is celebrating after every encounter. Yet that's not what bothered me the most, the problem is that combat is so poorly written, seriously during a combat scene who likes to have -4 hp 20/40 left, -4 hp 16/40 and so on read out, it is especially bad when fighting a boss battle. And then after saving some people we have a cheesy bard singing poems that buff or heal who joins them which has some silly end rhymes. The narrator does a good job with what little he had but I really really think some mechanics of this world look better on paper and should have been omitted in the audiobook.

quite a good listen

To be fair, I was looking for something to fill the time before credit day when I revisited this title after trying a number of times to add it unsuccessfully.
The story starts off slow and steady as you expect and puts you solidly in the world of tk. It does a fantastic job of making the transition from standard story telling to the litrpg with the world building and characters growing with the story at a steady pace.
I wish that there were a few less stat recounts as rather than being informative it became a tad more of a irradiation. To some degree I have to offset my irritation against what the genre is known for. So I'll put that down to a personal perspective.
All in all, by the end of the book I was disappointed that there was no follow up done yet. But ill certainly keep my eye open for it in the future.
The narrator grew in to the parts and became a rather enjoyable listen once he had got into the flow of the book.

First impressions with Sexual and Physical assault

When you carelessly pull out rape, torture and murder into the first chapter of a book and feel the need to use these extremes and triggering things to get across how shitty a situation is, then I feel you could have brought it across in a different way without using such shock and sledge hammer approaches, ways that could enrich your world and story in a more paletteable way.

enjoyable, good fun

I seriously enjoyed this. You are plunged into things quickly and it never looses pace after that. I liked the fact that there wasn't any filler and it never got repetitive. So definitely worth a look if you like fantasy. If you haven't tried LitRPG before, it takes a bit of getting used to but, ultimately the story is good and it's one of the better books in the genre that I have thus read.

Absolute cringe fest

Started off reasonably good and some interesting world building. Then, somewhere down the middle, it became a steaming pile of dragon excrement. I have never cringed so much while listening to a book. This meek dude nerd persona, somehow somewhere turns into a swaggering boasting one-lining juvenile overly aggressive murderousidiot that without fail beats odds not even The Matrix would allow. The way the love interest plays out is just.. ridiculous and such a distraction to what could've been a really cool universe to dive into. Had really good potential, but it completely loses direction, credibility and any semblance of quality throughout. I can not believe I finished this.

Different, some good, some bad.

A unique telling of a story in that it feels like a direct narration of a D&D adventure from one player characters point of view.
Sometimes the detail of the main characters progression in stats becomes a little repetitive but overall it’s ok.

Slow start but better towards the end.

The story started slow and one dimensional. However, the last 5 chapters picked up and I am looking forward to the next book.

Someone please check in on the people around this

On the whole this is held up by the person reading it. I found i was mostly hanging around just to hear more from them, & not having anything else currently out, then the story itself.
Everyone interesting is female & becomes a follower of the main guy, with the only one case of that not being true fading away like they never existed, but then all the females also have personality changes & all become 1 dimensional.
Listen in and puke when they all talk to him like he is baby.
"Ohh my big strong boy." 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Everyone else is a huge a hole alfa male troll bull crud. And as the MC grows strong, you can see how he is one too but an "nice guy."
It really shows off how the writers view the world & I worry for anyone around them.

Immature sense of relationships

Thought this book may of been written for a teen audience, the depiction of relationships between male/female characters is not only cringe worthy, it is immature and shallow. While the author may of attempted to create flirty playful dialogue between the protagonist and his fellow female comrades, the persistences with this method leads to vapid, meek characters merely added to the story to swoon over the lead character.
Furthermore the language used often felt flat with little richness to depict the wealth of a scene.

I really enjoyed this, and please continue

I just discovered this on a whim and I loved every single second of it, if there was a continuation I would personally throw my money at it without question, I have only 40 minutes left and will savour every bit, I hope there will be more for this story and likely there will be as the author has made a massive hole from what I see, that needs to be filled with other books in this series, but if not I will be quite sad.

Performance was good

I hate the main character. Why did he choose warrior and protected. Why not choose mage or even if he chose warrior, why not choose weapons master, because it literally gives you proficiency in ALL skills. I can only say that he is the stupidest character EVER. I am dissapointed in the book.
Even though it is not as bad as other LITRPG books with the stat's, but there are still a lot of stat's. Only thing keeping me listening is the guy performing. He is definitely a guy who I will recommend, but just not when he's reading anything related to this book.
LITERALLY WHY DO ALL LITRPG HAVE AO MANY STATE. This is not as bad as other LitRPG books but there are still A LOT OF statistics.
I AM NOT A FAN and I DO NOT recommend this for anyone who values their time.

I’m sorry that i didn’t like it but I just didn’t

Some of the characters seemed very 1 dimensional and Jenna in particular was very shallow and unlikeable, additionally the combat had far too much to do with stat increases and damage and stuff which took away from the excitement and slowed down the pace. Nothing in the story really surprised me. I say all this with compassion and understanding and hope that the next books will be improved by my criticism, sincerely, Liam.

Don't know what the other review was on about.

I was nervous reading this after the review saying how every other male in the book was an ass. I don't think he even read the book. There were an appropriate mix of characters and the main character develops in what is an interesting universe. Great read.
