His mind raced...as he lay in the alley. Why was he there? Gavin knew two things - his name and he was wearing a tunic and pants. From beyond the alley, hustling city sounds were unfamiliar. The warmth of the sun on his neck and its position in the sky suggests it was mid-morning. The first choice he made, turning out of the alley, would change his fate. Marcus has led a full life, but he was sick of it. Six thousand years of magic, mayhem, and fighting other people’s wars has worn him out. Why wouldn’t people just leave him alone?

Better than the first book
Ok, the first book was slow and I can’t say this book is much faster in terms of pace. There are several twists that made the story more engaging BUT the amount of sheer “luck” is kind of ridiculous. Is the book worth reading? Sure. Would I read it a second time? Probably not. There’s enough that I could be persuaded to read the third installment if there was nothing else to catch my interest.
Parents: there’s quite a bit of violence and blood (it’s a war book guys). No sex, just lots of nondescript romantic feelings. If you’re chill with violence and solid sword fighting descriptions and decapitations I’d say this would be decent for teens (think hunger games violence).

Down with the Emperor!
The story continues with the training of the wyverns and the building of the fortress on the island. The women of the resistance take over much of the focus in this second volume. Zavianna, Devarius’ sister, Naveen, a village survivor with abilities, Navianna and Lilianna from the resistance. As the Empire advances, will the resistance survive? Will the wyverns be enough to defeat the dragons? The story is good and quite interesting but also confusing to the point where I had to go back to listen to the beginning of volumes one and two. There is a big timeline hole between the two books which is not explained but only hinted at. I suppose we could call that The Time of The Emperor, or The Rise of Dragonia. Perhaps the author plans on releasing a third book to cover this timeline. Personally, I would rather read books in order. This is the only reason I didn’t rate it five stars. A great dragon story.
An excellent book about dragons and the people. Lots of action and twists to satisfy everyone.
I was most impressed with the culture of the dragons and wyverns. They weren’t just beasts but characters in the story. My favorite dragon stories are like this one. Many stories today have just one or two dragons and they are not active characters in the story.

Much better book than the first in the series, a great and engaging read
This book is so much better than the first, the characters are more rounded and lifelike. There is a lot more relationship development and the story makes you want to read more and more as fast as you can. The story itself is reminiscent of the inheritance series from Pasolini. The battle sequences are riveting and exciting but there is no strong language, which I really appreciate. I plan to purchase the rest of the series to see where the story goes and how it ends. Great book, a must read.

The sweet center
I admit that I have no idea how many books there will ultimately be in this series. But this was a very good middle book.
what does that mean? It means the book fulfilled expectations from the first book, while also containing a complete plot and set up for a future book.
I only have one big complaint and that is that this novel took to long to revisit the characters from book one that I already loved. instead the author introduced new characters and followed them exclusively until about the halfway point. I love the new characters now but at the beginning I just wanted to know what was going on with the old characters.
As far as the performance goes I love this narrator because he differentiated between characters with his voice and because he did a variety of UK accents.

An Excellent Next Installment
This is a fun listen for all who enjoy LitRPGs. This is book two in the series and better than the first one. There's plenty of action, adventure, magic and mayhem! This continues from book one but can stand on it's own just fine. The narration is nicely done again by Reuben Corbett. He gives all the characters their own voices, emotions and accents. His narration really helps to bring the story to life and make the reader feel as if they are there. I look forward to the next story in this series.

Such a good book and great narrator
So excited for the second book, hoping like mad it won't let me down....oh, I so did not need to be worried!!! The second book picks up straight where the first one ends and just builds from there. I love that one of the characters sounds a bit like Bane from Batman, total bonus for me. The characters are growing and the relationships are building and I'm loving listening to that. Oh those wyverns!!!! I hope there are more books after this one as I have to know more...I need to come back to this world and these characters.
