Publisher's summary

Dragons that Paolini would be proud of. Characters that would keep Riordan listening. A magic system that would make Brandon Sanderson say, “…nice."

Asher of Steel Rim fancies himself a halfway-decent thief, but not exactly the realm’s most popular guy. As an outcast among outcasts, some hate him for his scale-tipped, pointed ears. Others prefer to wish him dead because he’s a magi in a land where those born with etherarchy are outlawed.

In the wild, desert wastelands of Drakfell, Asher finally finds the opportunity he’s been waiting for: A chance to avenge his mother’s death by taking down the legendary leader of the Mage Hunters herself, The Black Valkyrie. To get his shot, Asher joins a crew of Knights determined to steal a true dragon egg. But Asher’s journey of personal vengeance lands him right in the middle of a war that goes far beyond anything he could’ve imagined.

Things could not have gone better

Classic [spear] and sorcery book, i.e., NOT a litrpg/gamelit book. Unique and interesting magic system coupled with some nice world building makes for a book with good replay value (and you will listen to it more than once).

The main protagonist is a show boating rouge type that you will either love or hate by the time he declares that he is too young to die.

The narrators do an excellent job and runs well at 2x speed. (Although the music beginning is awful -- that is only for a few second though).

What an awesome adventure!

This book was a lot of fun. It far exceeded my expectations, and just kept on getting better throughout. The performance was also exceptionally well done.

It was longer but really loved the adventure.

This was a great book. I loved that if followed closely just one group of people and their adventure. Some really good character development and twist moments at the end. Took a little bit to start piecing the world together but I was glad I learned through adventure instead of slow boring setup for half the book.
The voices were fun for each character and feeling their personality.

Excited for the next one.

This happens to be the greatest book ever

If you want to read a book you need to read a book or you think about a book. If you do any of those things, then this is the book you need to check out. It’s complete re-mind-boggling fun. I love the characters development. I think I just love all things Skystone Chronicle related.

Ready for Book 2

Very entertaining listen. Each character is distinct and interesting, and there were no big boring sections to endure. It strikes the balance of being fast-paced without being exhausting, and it builds out the world without infodumping.

The way they switch readers during dialogue was a little jarring at first, but it grew on me after a while, so I think it's mostly because I wasn't used to it.

A (Dragon) Breath of Fresh Air

Dragon Thief is a fast-paced fantasy-heist book set in a refreshingly-original world full of dragons magic. Lovable characters who made me laugh-out-loud repeatedly and left me feeling better about the world. The feel of this book is full of great childhood nostalgia trips with cinematic action sequences, a well thought-out magical system, and a charming thief main character with a heart of gold. If you love authors like Brandon Sanderson with awesome world building (think more Sanderson's YA books, with much more fast-paced story-telling) then you will love this.

The Narrators do a great job voicing all the characters and making it fairly easy to recognize the different characters by accent and intonation. Great overall performance

Dragons!!

I love this book and I’m excited to get the next one in the series. The story is good and I can definitely tell that it’s meant for a YA audience, but I enjoy those books since that’s what I grew up on. This is a book for anyone who loves anything dragon related and is a great first novel for Blake and Raven Penn
