Publisher's Summary

A war was brewing within our borders. Not a war with weapons, but one with words. Until now. And so it begins....

From critically acclaimed author Bobby Akart, Doomsday, a new post-apocalyptic survival thriller, is a gripping series of America on the edge of societal collapse and destined for war.

In Doomsday: Apocalypse, book one of the Doomsday series, it was New Year's Eve. As the ball dropped in Times Square, Americans were preparing for a new year and a bright future. Instead, they found themselves fighting for their lives as the fuse had been lit that sent the country into chaos.

With political rancor at an all-time high, the war of words escalated, and a political war erupted. Americans were caught in the crosshairs of societal unrest and a shadowy group stoking the fires of discontent burning in America. Words were replaced by weapons, as neighbor turned on neighbor, and powerful forces stopped at nothing to reshape a nation in turmoil.

America had become embroiled in something more than a clash of ideologies. She now faced a battle in which the blood of patriots and tyrants would be shed. As Americans struggled to survive, they sought a place of safety where they could ride out the coming storm. However, even if they can overcome the threats confronting them, will they bear witness to an America hell-bent on destroying itself?

This is a story of a nation divided, on the cusp of a second civil war, and what that portends for our future. Remember, all empires collapse eventually, and America will be no exception.

Horrible

I can't say enough bad about this book. First I was going to stop because the narrator is horrific. It's just incessant droning with no inflection or life in his performance. It's a bad imitation of Walter.Cronkite reading the news! But I decided to forge on and give the story a chance. BAD CHOICE! There's no character development or anything that made me want to know what's next. I don't care what's going to happen next after 17 chapters! Lastly, he had to get political with how Trump is getting a bad rap and started in on Democrats. I don't want to hear your political opinions in my sci-fi stories and other authors whom I enjoy can write these type of stories without shoving their personal beliefs in my face. RETURN....

This author is very right leaning writer

Once the politics of the writer start coming through I give up. Hopefully it wasn’t too soon but this story has a sort of conservative tone to it. I read to escape political stuff so not for me.

Uff!!! BORING!!!

I have been listening for almost 4 hrs and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has happened!!! 4 hrs into the book and all I've hear is tedious and uninteresting fluff. It doesn't take 4 hrs(37 chapters) to introduce your characters and settings. Completely mundane at best! Are all these 5 star reviews for the same book??? I'm confused. Choose something else! I wish I did!

too passive

Couldn't make it past chapter 3. the writing is almost all in passive voice, with too much reliance on tired metaphors and over explanation of common ideas. also the narrator didn't even vaguely attempt the accents that were indicated by the dialog.

simplistic

Simplistic writing style. This book feels like it's only chapter one, short and not much content. Won't be reading any more of the series.

a whole lot of nothing

completely unrealistic dialog. the whole book was nothing but character development. might as well skip the first book and go straight to the second. by the end of the book you still pretty much have no clue what's going on.

Fantastic series

This series is one of the best I’ve read (or listened to). Very entertaining and tough to put down. What I really like about this series is that he has done away with all the profanities and sexual scenes so the younger audience can enjoy these books as well; plus I don’t care to read (or hear) all of that myself.

The only thing I found wrong with the story is the medical scenes. Unless you’re in the medical field you probably wouldn’t catch all the inconsistencies. It would be of benefit to have a medical professional edit the medical scenes.

However, I still give this series 5/5 stars all the way around. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m about to download the pandemic series now.
