They say you shouldn't ask your mom whether your business is a good idea, because she loves you and will lie to you. This is technically true, but it misses the point. You shouldn't ask anyone if your business is a good idea. It's a bad question, and everyone will lie to you at least a little. As a matter of fact, it's not their responsibility to tell you the truth. It's your responsibility to find it, and it's worth doing right.

Teams launching new products must consider the advantages of “the network effect”, where a product or service’s value increases as more users engage with it. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and other tech giants utilize network effects, and most tech products incorporate them.

This book is impossible to listen to (reader)
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different narrator that has passion for the subject
What was most disappointing about Bill Aulet’s story?
I couldn't get past 10 minutes with this; I kept having to restart because I'd tune out after a minute or so.
What didn’t you like about Erik Synnestvedt’s performance?
It sounds 'read'; no passion here. Get excited about the topic to keep the listener listening.

Good Content / Awful Narration
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the book to a friend, not the audiobook.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Disciplined Entrepreneurship?
Well thought out, methodical steps to entrepreneurship providing you already have a specific idea, passion, skill or technology.
What didn’t you like about Erik Synnestvedt’s performance?
The narrator sounded like he was holding in a sneeze or holding back tears while narrating. The narrator ruined the content. It was so poorly read that it became very easy to tune out. A shame, because I generally prefer the audio format.
Could you see Disciplined Entrepreneurship being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.
Any additional comments?
Read the book instead, do NOT get the audio version. The narration needs to be redone with a better narrator.

best book on entrepreneurship ever written
Any additional comments?
Without question the best book ever written on the topic of disciplined entrepreneurship to come from MIT. This insightful book comes with a free companion online course on EdX, and the opportunity to participate in a highly selective and immersive bootcamp run by Bill Aulet in Cambridge, MA. The bootcamp is the MIT course condensed into a one week period, where the brightest minds from over 30 countries converge, along with a roster of highly notable serial entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Great Book, Terrible Narrator
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Book is full of useful, actionable information for the entrepreneur business owner, whether starting up or having been in business for a while, really good content.
What didn’t you like about Erik Synnestvedt’s performance?
The narrator sounded bored to tears and very monotone in his speech, this unfortunately makes you feel bored to tears! It is almost enough to make you not want to continue listening to the book, which is a shame because the content really is quite good.
Any additional comments?
If you can stand the almost condescending, snide tone of the narrator, you'll get a lot out of this book.

Annoying Narration and Jargon
The narrator has an annoying way of ending his words where his voice gets raspy and the ending is stretched out. It's like he doesn't have enough breath or he's a smoker.
I bought this book with a goal to create a better small business, but the author says later in the book that this is for a large business, i.e. one that will eventually be traded on the NYSE or NASDAQ. Also, the narrator goes into Bell Curves and other stuff I don't remember from college.
If that's what you're looking for, have at it. I'm going to continue my search.

Good enough for marketing tech
While ignorant of some of the most important and actionable research in entrepreneurship, and focused around tech advances that don't cause too many waves, it is good enough for someone seeking an outline of reverse-value-chain marketing (marketing that starts with end-use and works its way back to the creation of the product).

Any additional comments?
I have read good books and haven't left comments. Read bad books and haven't left comments. However, i feel so cheated by this monstrosity that I am compelled to leave a comment.
If you missed the fact that Bill attends MIT, you will know this by the end of chapter 1 (why, oh why didn't i stop reading here). And if you miss that chapter, continual references to his colleagues & students at MIT will ensure that you know it sooner rather than later. And if you missed that Bill attends MIT, you will know it by the end of chapter 1. Oh, don't forget Bill's students attend MIT. Aaaand so does Bill's colleagues. Aaand Bill teaches there. At MIT. Aaand this book was written by someone (that would be Bill) who attends MIT. M.I.T, Yay! And if that's not intelligent enough for you, we then get to rename common concepts so that they then become our original idea, 'cause that would give us a competitive advantage. Opps, sorry I meant that would give us Core. But wait you want more intelligence? Lets 'Lean' on someone else's concept, get all nitpicky with the wording and the claim that our bastardisation of someone else's original concept is far superior (we can do this because we are MIT).
So, unless you are dazzled by MIT, want to be a fanboy of MIT, or there is a certain teacher at MIT that you want to impress, do yourself a favour and choose a different book.

Good content but poorly read.
The content was sound, but the narrator wasn't great. I struggled to listen, but got there in the end. Probably would buy the book instead of listening to this one.

The Four Steps to the Epiphany launched the lean start-up approach to new ventures. It was the first book to offer that start-ups are not smaller versions of large companies and that new ventures are different than existing ones. Start-ups search for business models while existing companies execute them. The book offers the practical and proven four-step customer development process for search and offers insight into what makes some start-ups successful and leaves others selling off their furniture.
