It is said, among the Downstream People, the Dire Wolf has awakened.

An Indian family is brutally murdered. Greenhorn Deputy US Marshal Jubal Smoak figures he knows the killer: the renegade Crow Redhand. In pursuit of the outlaw, the lawman rides deep into the tribal lands of the Quapaw and encounters a legend. A legend where the stirring of an ancient demon terrorizes the land. Smoak's pursuit of the killer winds him deeper into the Indian lore, on a trail that can only end in death....

"Truman redefines the action western/mystery novel with his latest, Dire Wolf of the Quapaw. An intricately woven, fast-paced story featuring a perfectly flawed, easy to under-estimate lawman as the hero." (DB Jackson, Western Heritage Wrangler award winner)

I did finish the book. It was hard to stay focused. I guess just isn't my cup of tea, even though I do love a good western.

Interesting!

Well written and well read, this book held my attention from the first page to the last. Both plot and characters are well developed. Phil pulls the reader out of the current world and into another era. I can't wait to read the next book.

One of the best books I've read this year!

The narrator is pleasing. He sounds a little like Marshall Dillon which is great for this story line. The characters are worthy. I enjoy listening to stories where the main character's morals exceed their flaws.

Great listen

First read from this author. Enjoyed the story which has exciting sequences and lots of action. The drawbacks are the descriptions of the Natives and how they react. I noticed biases which were off putting. The other thing was that the hero kept getting beaten up and shot multiple times, which seemed excessive. However I would recommend this book despite those drawbacks.

Great adventure
