Publisher's Summary

Hurt people hurt people.

Say there was a novel in which Holden Caulfield was an alcoholic and Lolita was a photographer's assistant, and somehow they met in Bright Lights, Big City. He's blinded by love. She by ambition.

Diary of an Oxygen Thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel but, above all, a very realistic account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us.

an emotional rollercoaster

the beginning I hated him, the middle I felt he had a turning point, the end I wanted to cry for him. A story about the way we treat each other, brilliantly told in a way that makes you reevaluate your own relationships.

the reading was phenomenal.

Not Sure About This One

I have no idea how to even review this book. First off, if you are offended by sex and profanity, this is not for you. There were parts of this book where I was completely turned off by his misogynist attitude and I kept thinking "what a creep." I also kept thinking that this reminded me of some of the guys I dated in my 20s. But there were other parts that interested me, such as his experience working in the ad agency, his move to Minnesota, and the woman who treated him like he had been treated. And while I cringed at some parts, I also chuckled at some (the mosquito being the state bird of Minnesota and his description of his masturbation techniques come to mind). So, overall, I had to give this a neutral 3 star rating.

UGH. Yawn.

If you ever want to get inside the deranged mind of an emotionally homicidal sociopath who somehow, deep down, desires sympathy then go ahead.
If I knew who would be writing the other side of the story, I would love to get my hands on her book.
Actually, note to the author: You must really be a true narcissist to think that someone would go out of their way to bother to write a book about you.
My skin is crawling .

Different than expected in a great way

Very depressing in the first half, but the way everything progresses makes everything come full circle and is overall a good look into the human psyche and what it means to love in the only way you can.

Interesting

This is difficult to review. I loved the book for what it was but I hated the character completely. I think that's what made it a great book though. I don't feel any sympathy for him or interest in him, I simply hate him. I honestly don't think he got what he deserved in the end, I think he deserved more. but! I am glad he finally got to get an understanding of the pain he put those women through. although I am not 100% sure his ego really let him feel it. For anyone out there trying to convince yourself someone still loves you dispite blank, read this please. also if you are just curious like about the mind of someone like this, also a good read, it's very open and honest.
