Publisher's Summary

From the Wall Street Journal best-selling author of 44 Chapters About 4 Men (inspiration for the Netflix Original series Sex/Life) comes a dark Mafia romance steeped in Irish folklore.

I can’t remember anymore if my grandfather’s eyes were blue or green, but I’ll never forget the way they wrinkled at the corners when he laughed at one of his own jokes. Or the way they sparkled with mischief when he told me tales about the magical creatures that dwelled in the forest behind his humble Irish sheep farm—shy fairies who liked to eat tea biscuits, cruel witches who liked to eat children, a moody lake spirit with a taste for expensive gifts.

As a child, I believed every fantastical word. But when he warned me about the mute boy who also lurked in those woods, the one the priest had declared to be the spawn of Satan himself, I refused to listen. Kellen wasn’t evil. He was kind, and beautiful, and special, and hurting. He was my friend. And with every summer I spent stolen away with him in those enchanted woods, he grew to become so much more.

But when I return to Glenshire as an adult, grieving and engaged to someone else, all those legends quickly morph into nightmares.

My grandfather had been right about everything, especially the boy.

If only I had listened.

Two broken souls find love!

4.5 stars! Devil of Dublin was such a great time and blew me away as soon as I jumped into the story! This was my first time reading from this author and I am definitely intrigued now. This is a dark, contemporary romance with two broken souls, forbidden love, Irish folklore, fated mates-level love, a broken boy turned mafia hitman, and a gorgeous setting in Ireland. A friend recommended this saying it gave off The Highwayman vibes (by Kerrigan Byrne) and I was sold. 😆 And it totally delivered on those vibes right away with these two obvious soul mares finding one another as children.

Darby comes to Ireland with her mother when she’s just 8-years old and they stay with her grandfather. Darby is immediately enraptured by the folklore, nature, lochs, and wanting to find fairies. On her adventure outside she finds a lost little boy instead hiding out in a cottage. She later learns his name is Kellen and he’s 10-years old. Kellen was left by his mother and is currently living in an abusive house, he’s taking advantage of, starved for love and affection, doesn’t speak, and comes off a bit growly and wild. Instead of being afraid, Darby immediately takes a liking to Kellen and they become friends. Over the next few summers, Darby comes back to visit Ireland and always finds Kellen. After her last visit at 12, Darby doesn’t return again for years…

These two tortured souls were absolutely soul mates, I loved the beginning of the story and seeing their bond and connection grow as children. It was filled with such tenderness and sweetness. Rough times come for both of them and seeing them find one another after so much trauma, was just so good. Kellen turned into a hitman/assassin for the Irish mob but once Darby is back in his life, he is ready to burn it all to the ground. The way he protects her, legit the first scene they’re back together as adults 🥺👀! Seeing them on the run together, such a fast-paced action-filled ride! The audio of the hero’s Irish accent 🔥😮‍💨! I liked the folklore weaved through the story and how the author’s note at the end mentions this was loosely inspired by events in their own family history.

I will say the last half I wasn’t as invested in, I went in expecting a little bit more emphasis on the mafia/mob activity. They were on the run a lot and I kind of wanted more focus on them and their romance since we had so much character time in the first half. The first half it was easily a 5-star read for me but then it kind of lost me towards the end. I mean I did stop the audio 13% in to go and buy the paperback 😅 sooo I definitely did enjoy this one.

A Wild & Amazing Ride! Brilliant Story & Listen🎧

BB Easton continues to wow me with another amazing novel, the story drew me right in, grabbed my attention and captivated it the entire time. It is such an original story, it starts off like a fairy tale and then wham, real life kicks in, and Darby is no longer that innocent girl who we meet as a young girl on her first visit to Ireland and whose fate was magically sealed. Darby met a boy in the woods that day, Kellen, and they formed a special bond that day. Darby only saw the good in people, and when she saw Kellen, that was what she saw. She did not know how troubled he was or that he had a terrible home life. They saw each other several times over the years after that, and Kellen always looked forward to seeing her. She was the only one who did not judge him or look at him like he was evil. She had not visited Ireland for a few years because of money issues and then her Mom’s illness and the next time she does it was for her grandfather’s funeral and her fiancé accompanied her. Even though she heard of Kellen’s demise she still went looking for him, and what she found instead surprised her, she mistakenly went to the wrong cottage and the person who greeted her reminded her of who intended husband was, deemed by Saoirse, herself. Her life is thrown into a tailspin after that meeting, she saw what happened to Kellen’s cottage, she even thought she saw him and when she went home, her fiancé was not happy with her and was his usual abusive self until an angel comes to save her, or was it the devil. Kellen did not intend to be seen, but he could not sit back and watch what was about to happen to Darby. He does what he does best, rids the problem and then he takes Darcy with him. She does not know what he does and when she comes up with some guesses, he does not deny them since they were all good things, if only. I love how everything played out in this book, it is a brilliantly plotted story with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, twists and turns, thrilling suspense and a romance that was always meant to be. The world building is phenomenal, as is the character growth and development. BB Easton, thank you for this brilliant story and the wild and amazing emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧 📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, BB Easton could not have had a better cast to bring her characters and story to life. Elizabeth Klett and Eric Nolan are superbly talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited their character’s persona, accents included, and were believable in every role they played. Klett’s Darby was perfection all thru the years, Nolan’s did the same for Kellen, grasping all sides of his personality. Both were great voicing the all the secondary characters as well. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to, and their narration enhanced an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for this exceptional listen.

wow

When BB teased a bit of the audio, I was a goner from Kellen's first word! this story was so good! it was dark and light at the same time. I was shocked, heated, and at times crumpled in pain while listening to this story unfold. The narrating was perfect! time to find more Irish stories.

THIS IS A DEEP BOOK

The story started kind of slow but once it got going it was awesome. Please read the warning about the triggers, IT IS TRUE. The author and narrators did an awesome job. This book had me thinking days after I finished the book, the heaviness of this book was unreal.

Stunning story where the narrators nail it! ❤️

I first read this book and then listened to the audiobook version. An entirely new experience, but these narrators captured these characters wonderfully! Elizabeth Klett as Darby was amazingly talented and if I could ever imagine Kellen's voice, it would be Eric Nolan, 100%!

About the story:
I am dazed once again by BB Easton's genre-melding ability to craft an extraordinary story. Friends to lovers, mafia, mystical AND mythical ... heavy, hard, heart-crushing, and hopeful. Devil of Dublin is a highly emotional, high intensity, and gripping dark romance that tells the story of Kellen and Darby, childhood friends that are broken by the horrific circumstances life throws their way. Innocence lost, caused by the vile nature of those they should be able to trust most, has them both living life in a sort-of trance when they grow older, their lives strictly moving forward by essential survival mode. Their story is traumatic and uncomfortable at times, but Kellen and Darby's strength and resilience will make you sanguine, and you will root for them wholeheartedly from the first to the last page. More than that, these two characters and their story will tunnel deep into your heart, and if you're like me, you will welcome them with open arms forevermore.

Devil of Dublin is full of Irish folklore and fantastical imagery that will bestow a wistful yearning to you; a desire for it all to be true—the deep connection and intense love between the characters, a wish for Darby and Kellen to conquer their demons, those that are tangible and those that are internally ripping them apart, and an ache for the happiest, happily ever after for two of the most deserving characters I've ever read.

I don't want to give too much away. Just know that Kellen and Darby are haunting and lasting characters, and it is clear that they were given life carefully and lovingly through BB's remarkable writing and storytelling. Take the trigger warnings to heart, but if you are open, jump into this unforgettable story and you really will believe that love can conquer all. Devil of Dublin deserves all the fabled stars. 🖤🖤🖤

Phenomenal read by BB Easton.

A dark brooding Irishman. NEED I SAY MORE?

Honestly, I was lucky enough to get early access to this book and it destroyed me. It’s all I could think about for weeks. There’s a playlist made by the author, BB Easton, in the back of the book and it is FLAWLESS. It creates the perfect ambiance to have while you read. From the very beginning it was the mythical realism that drew me into this story. There is just enough to take you back to when you were little and fairies were something you really thought you could find in the woods. I’ve never been to Ireland but as I read I felt like I could almost feel the grassy field beneath my feet. The character development for both the male and female leads were spot on. Kellen is mysterious and declared by the priest to be the spawn of Satan. Pure evil…or is he? Darby, a sweet innocent soul who always sees the good in everything but has a strength within her that even she doesn’t quite realize. Together it makes for one hell of a dark but fated love story. Full of suspense and grit that will keep you racing through the pages needing to know what happens next. 10/10. I’ll be recommending this book to anyone who will listen.

Excellent listen

Loved this story, of an Irish boy & an American girl who meet in Ireland. It’s a story of innocence lost and a connection so profound, they will walk through fire together, for each other. Loved the narration—both narrators are new to me. I generally only listen to a couple of hours at a time but this was so well done, I binged it over two days.
