The bestselling author of Daemon returns with a near-future technological thriller, in which a charismatic billionaire recruits a team of adventurers to launch the first deep space mining operation--a mission that could alter the trajectory of human civilization.

When itinerant cave diver James Tighe receives an invitation to billionaire Nathan Joyce's private island, he thinks it must be a mistake. But Tighe's unique skill set makes him a prime candidate for Joyce's high-risk venture to mine a near-earth asteroid--with the goal of kick-starting an entire off-world economy. The potential rewards and personal risks are staggering, but the competition is fierce and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Isolated and pushed beyond their breaking points, Tighe and his fellow twenty-first century adventurers--ex-soldiers, former astronauts, BASE jumpers, and mountain climbers--must rely on each other to survive not only the dangers of a multi-year expedition but the harsh realities of business in space. They're determined to transform humanity from an Earth-bound species to a space-faring one--or die trying.

I love Daniel Suarez's writing - if you've read "Daemon" as well as "Freedom", you'll note that he takes technological aspects of life as it is now and carefully constructs completely logical future enhancements. He also manages to project the accompanying societal and political sides of life into believable future structures with logical rules, laws and benefits. Then, of course, there's the unpredictable behavior of humans, corporations, law enforcement, etc. Read all of his books - you'll love 'em!

Totally believable projection of the future

The book is great. It’s a great story and a great description of imagined events in our near future. However, when compared to almost all other Suarez novels, this novel’s ending leads much to be desired. I applaud Suarez for this effort. I will listen to it again like I have his other audiobook novels, but the ending felt as though he hit a wall on how to make the resolution epic as he has in previous efforts. It happens I suppose during the career of a novelist. Not all can be as high reaching and deliver as was Influx.

Great concept, lacking in depth as is typical of Suarez

Truly enjoyed this book. Great character development, awesome story, and brilliantly narrated. As other have said, if you liked The Martian, you’ll love this book. Highly recommend.

The first quarter of the book is very boring, but then it starts to gain speed. And speed it gained at the end! It’s a cool hard science fiction story and I’m looking forward for the rest of the series.

Tough to get started, but good in the end

Suarez outdid himself again with this one. The book tells a very compelling story with a great pace and tone. The performance of Jeff Gunner is once again stellar, a match made in heaven! Great job to all involved!

A thrill from beginning to end!
