Publisher's Summary

In a moving story of sacrifice and triumph, human scientists establish a relationship with intelligent lifeforms - the cheela-living on Dragon's Egg, a neutron star where one Earth hour is equivalent to hundreds of their years. The cheela culturally evolve from savagery to the discovery of science, and for a brief time, men are their diligent teachers.

Classic Hard Science Fiction

I love the writings of Dr. Forward. There is nothing like science fiction written by an actual physicist. I am hoping it will not take Audible long to release the second and third Cheela books as Audible titles. It has been decades since I read these books with my eyes, and now I am loving to re-read this one with my ears. :)

Great story

The audio was a little quiet. But the story was amazing! The story is easy to follow, even if you don't know the science. I can't wait for starquake (the sequal) to be an audiobook too.

Fascinating piece of Science Fiction

Forward managed to create an engaging and well rounded account of the development of another civilization. This was a fantastic book and I think anyone interested in social science or the history of human civilization will enjoy it.

Mind blowing

Very entertaining story, and absolutely mind blowing concepts. Well worth a read or listen. Dr. Forward was not only a brilliant scientist, but a great storyteller.

A must-read for anyone interested in hard sci-fi

Fantastic book. I'm not usually a fan of overly exponential books, but I really enjoyed the detail in Dragon's Egg. The author takes us through the very beginnings of how life can form on such an extreme environment that exists on Dragon's Egg. Every detail is easy to understand and well thought out. It was very interesting to read about each stage of the Cheela's civilization until they became space faring and eventually bypass human technology. All basically within the blink of an eye.

Original Sci-fi at its finest!

The story captures the reader's interest and Scott Brick brings the characters to life. Excellent experience... now for book two; Starquake.

took me a while to get Into this one. Great ending

the beginning was hard to get into mainly due to the hard science fiction. once the book got going and I started to get ideyd to the story telling it took off. you really get immersed into the story. the ending of this book was fantastic!
