Publisher's Summary

In a moving story of sacrifice and triumph, human scientists establish a relationship with intelligent lifeforms - the cheela-living on Dragon's Egg, a neutron star where one Earth hour is equivalent to hundreds of their years. The cheela culturally evolve from savagery to the discovery of science, and for a brief time, men are their diligent teachers.

Classic Hard Science Fiction

I love the writings of Dr. Forward. There is nothing like science fiction written by an actual physicist. I am hoping it will not take Audible long to release the second and third Cheela books as Audible titles. It has been decades since I read these books with my eyes, and now I am loving to re-read this one with my ears. :)

Hard Sci-Fi at it's best

I read this book when it was originally released. This is by far one of the best hard science fiction books I have ever read. Robert L Forward seems to have done his best to make sure that this book is reasonably scientifically accurate while telling a great story about finding an intelligent species in the most unlikely of places. When I found the audible book version of it, I was overjoyed and was not disappointed at all by the performance of Todd McLaren. He did a beautiful job in his reading and really brought the story to life. My only disappointment is that they have not done an audible version of the sequel entitled Starquake, which I think is even better. So in closing I highly recommend this book. Don't be scared away that this is a hard sci-fi book. It is a story of a great adventure that is truly epic and one that I think all will enjoy, if not also come to love. Who knows, if enough people enjoy this book, maybe they'll commission the sequel to be done. One can only hope.

Mind blowing

Very entertaining story, and absolutely mind blowing concepts. Well worth a read or listen. Dr. Forward was not only a brilliant scientist, but a great storyteller.

Science Fiction at its BEST.

I’m an avid reader of sci-fi, having read approximately one thousand novels and short stories. To date, Dragon’s Egg is the most unique, scientifically coherent, well written, and fantastic novel I’ve read.
I was unfamiliar with author Robert L. Forward, and purchased this book based on the amount of 5-star, positive reviews. Needless to say, I can’t wait until Audible releases the next two volumes in this series (it’s presently June 28, 2020...why haven’t they been released yet??!!). Additionally, Todd McLaren’s narration is outstanding.
Bravo. Highly recommended indeed.

good.

tiny aliens evolving rapidly under massive gravity. PG rated. I really liked it. it was well narrated. the story was interesting. a fair amount of science. descriptions of aliens and their planet made me able to visualize it without getting lost in the weeds. I especially like the atmosphere that it created.

Fascinating piece of Science Fiction

Forward managed to create an engaging and well rounded account of the development of another civilization. This was a fantastic book and I think anyone interested in social science or the history of human civilization will enjoy it.

Great story

The audio was a little quiet. But the story was amazing! The story is easy to follow, even if you don't know the science. I can't wait for starquake (the sequal) to be an audiobook too.

Very Fun Concept

Fun world building, but a bit too technical at times. Some parts were a bit slow, and I would've liked to see the humans play a more interesting part.

Well read, interesting concept

A good read, shows its age, but you can feel the original novelty of the story for the time it was written.
