A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle. Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alexa uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alexa, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory. The longer Alexa is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alexa finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?

Book one wraps up nicely, but I am definitely going to continue the series. I'm hoping for even more world building in book 2.
Great Start; Good Narration

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The person narrating this is such a bore I almost wanted to die listening to her. She had no tone, no personality I had to get the book so I could "imagine" the tone and characters better than what the narrator ever could.Who was your favorite character and why?
I dont know yet.Would you be willing to try another one of Rebecca Mozo’s performances?
Never!Could you see Defy being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I dont know I have to read the book because the narrator ruined the book for me.Any additional comments?
Do not let this narrator read any other books unless she learns to have some more tone and gets more personality. The person narrating is horrible!!!!!!!
