Lucian North is supposed to be dead.

Suffering from a rare heart condition that doctors say should have killed him over a year ago, Lucian is playing a video game when Death finally comes.

Rather than give in, Lucian pulls a gun on the Grim Reaper.

As the two stare each other down, terrible demons known as injuresouls swarm into the room in pursuit of Death.

Summoning courage he never knew he had, Lucian comes to Death's aid. And for his troubles, he is awarded Death's Mantle.

Transported to a spiritual world he could have never fathomed, Lucian finds that he is instantly powerful, able to conjure weapons from scratch and perform incredible feats. He introduces game mechanics to his new role, develops a carefully curated inventory list, and modifies a HUD system that allows him to better track his targets.

It isn’t easy being Death, and Lucian will need just about everything he can get as he faces off against fallen angels, appalling parasites, demon-born injuresouls, and savage Death Hunters.

Regardless of his sudden strength, his newfound enemies, and his gamer ingenuity, Lucian can't communicate with the living, which wouldn't be a problem if he hadn’t discovered something terrible about his family....

Lucian’s brother is scheduled to die, and only Lucian has the power to do anything about it.

The idea of a pov of becoming death has been done before but not like this. The world is interesting and builds as you go. The characters are fun and engaging and the story is fun and different a new and unique take on a the grim reaper story. I can’t wait to listen to the next.

Cool premise with a world, story, and characters that draw you in and leave you wanting more.

this one is ok but just. I like the Dave Willmarth reference that was cheeky. but the substance of the story seems like there is something missing. so at this point I'll wait on the next book.

just a time killer.

first I want to say the premise of the book is amazing the ideas for the power system are great... the execution of said premise and ideas is lack luster. the main character has demi God like powers and his use of it is terrible first he creates a lava sword which is cool then he makes guns unlimited possibilities and he make a pair of glocks and a couple heavy weapons. there also isn't really a sense of progression either. most of the weapons he has, are created in the first couple hours of the book and all of them cost relatively low sp but he can still take on cosmic beings that have more power and come out on top. I would like to have seen him sit down and craft a weapon after a long day of grinding and use most of if not all of his sp to create Trump card that actually feels impactful and not oh I got luck cause I hoped off my arm and gave it leg. I'm saying I didn't enjoy this book and I will be getting the next one because the world is interesting I just hope it's interesting ideas and power system are put to better use

(SPOILERS)unlimited cosmic power...Itty bitty living space
