Publisher's Summary

'I want them to suffer. I want them dead....'

Carly Chase is traumatised after being in a fatal traffic accident which kills a teenage student from Brighton University. Then she receives news that turns her entire world into a living nightmare. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved have been found tortured and murdered.

Now Detective Superintendent Roy Grace of the Sussex Police force issues a stark and urgent warning to Carly: She could be next. The student had deadly connections. Connections that stretch across the Atlantic. Someone has sworn revenge and won't rest until the final person involved in that fatal accident is dead.

The police advise Carly her only option is to go into hiding and change identity. The terrified woman disagrees - she knows these people have ways of hunting you down anywhere. If the police are unable to stop them, she has to find a way to do it herself. But already the killer is one step ahead of her, watching, waiting, and ready...

An accidental thriller

This poor gal, one DUI and she's up to her neck in mafia alligators. She's British and they are in New York. Thank goodness we all have cell phones. I liked the characters including the NY heavy. Lots of running around, not a lot of violence, mostly bad guys. Fine adventure with a "tied to the railroad tracks" pace that kept me glued.

Quite an exciting ending

Enthralling beginning; edge-of-your-seat ending. In between were the usual repetition, great dialogue, tiresome Sandy bits, decent narration (except for the hokey American accents and funny pronunciations), and an entertaining story.

The beginning had me hooked. The booking procedure was scary, making me think about what it must be like to be arrested for something you didn't do. Frightening.

The last quarter of the book had me completely mesmerized. It was 4:00 in the morning and I couldn't put it down.

I liked this book. But, seriously, I am getting annoyed by the Sandy storyline.

Preferred David Bauckham as narrator

Enjoyed the book as I have the rest of the series but preferred David Bauckham as narrator; he brought the characters to life!

I bought this twice

Audible has sold this book with two different covers. Usually when you're browsing, if a book is in your library, you will see this indicated along with your ratings if you graded the book.
I thought this was a new Roy Grace novel! Within twenty minutes I was having a bad deja vu experience. There was no indication on the book's display page that I already owned it, and when I typed the name into the search window in my library, it did not show the previous purchase.
This is an excellent book, and I rated it five stars when I bought it the first time, (last October, it turns out).
Audible needs to rectify this asap.

Brilliant crime

Absolutely brilliant! Was disappointed with the last Roy Grace but Peter James is back on form with this one. As I have visual problems and can't read at the moment I often struggle to find audiobooks that are as gripping as the written version. However James' descriptions and characterisations are so well done that you get completely carried away with the story. Highly recommended .

Excellent and engrossing story

I've enjoyed a number of Peter James' Roy Grace novels, but think this is the best yet. I was gripped by the engrossing story as several, seemingly, disparate characters and story-lines all come together by the end of the book. The last few chapters are so exciting I was practically holding my breath as I listened eager to find out how things turned out. Highly recommended.

Peter James comes up trumps again

Brilliant book, just didn't want to put it down, a different slant to a road accident that grips you from start to finish.

Fascinating plot

This novel was a masterful and unusual plot line.I was prepared to suspend my belief because I was enjoying the journey!
It was well written, and I cared about the characters as a result of the writing.

I really enjoyed this book

I do not know why but I could not put this book down. It was an unusual contrast of locations, the very British south coast and the American Hamptons. It also had enough personal detail to involve me in the characters, which I like. They were also very strong characters. It also had a happy ending after a few rather gory passages.
The story teller was perfect for the job, each person was immediately recognisable, even the handheld game.
I have not enjoyed a book this much for sometime.

Thoroughly enjoyed it

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.Peter James has a way of keeping your absolute attention. The main character Roy Grace features in many Peter James novels and his personal life is a main vein through out. The narrators voice is easy on the ear and i would definately recommend this book.

A gripping read

We find the Roy Grace mysteries great fun and easy listening. The stories flow well with good pace and interest. This particular book is absolutely engrossing and hard to turn off. Some of the aspects are gruesome and a challenge to listen to but written in such a way that it's difficult not to listen for ...'5 more minutes'.

Gripping and thrilling

Found this book one of the most interesting and as usual enjoyed the dynamic between Grace and Branson. I found the story gripped me from the beginning ( a little like the title) and carried me along to the conclusion. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend.
