As a teenager in Chicago, May always dreamed of travelling the world. So when she falls in love with George Turner, she can’t wait to return to London as his wife. Two beautiful daughters follow, but George isn’t the husband he promised to be. Ten years on, May is wondering if she’s made a terrible mistake. The Great War has been declared in Europe, and all around, brave young men are being called up to serve. George, banned from conscription himself, has taken to the bottle, and May suspects he’s seeing other women too. He even sends her beloved daughters away to school. She misses them terribly every day. Then May meets veteran nurse Elsie, who persuades May to join the war effort. May knows nothing of nursing – it will be difficult, dangerous work, but her heart is telling her it’s the right thing to do and the only way to carve out a life for herself and her daughters away from George. But when George does the unthinkable, May’s children are put at risk. Miles away on the frontline and unable to reach them, will May be reunited with her little girls before it’s too late?©2018 Lizzie Page (P)2019 Bolinda Publishing Historical Fiction War Sagas Fiction Heartfelt Marriage Genre Fiction

I listened to this book for a bookclub. I was sceptical when I couldn't find it at the library or a bookstore. I ended up getting it on Audible, and it was such a treat! I loved May's story. It was engrossing and heartwarming. I'm so glad I gave it go.

****Forewarning, the narrator's male voices remind me of Mr. Brown from Paddington Bear cartoons that I watched as a child.***

A surprising delight

love the story and the characters. the only thing I did not like was the narrator and the different voices, it made it very hard to concentrate so I had to keep repeating. otherwise, a fantastic audiobook to listen to.

Great Story

Katherine Kellgren is phenomenal. Just listening to her carry the different individual dialogs is mind boggling! Ms. Kellgren is unbelievable in her ability to switch between characters without any pauses. Great book!

Phenomenal Dialogs

I enjoyed the story and the writer is talented. When you are listening to audiobooks the reader is very important- in this the reader has a beautiful voice but when she uses her voice to portray the male characters
It sounds silly and too theatrical.

Interesting story and reader was good but-
