Story
Eight true crime stories of murder and mayhem. In my first audiobook as a true crime author I've started with a few of the stories that have haunted me for some time. Some of these stories are unbelievable in their brutality while others are astounding in the stupidity of the killers. This collection of stories are from all around the globe and have no common thread between them other than that they are both thought provoking and disturbing. The stories included in this anthology are dark and creepy and will leave you with a new understanding of just how fragile the human mind can be.

Story
On March 16, 1992, Elizabeth DeCaro, a 28 year-old mother of four, was found dead in her own home, murdered execution-style with two bullets to the head. Her husband, Rick, was immediately a suspect, having previously struck her "accidentally" with the family van after taking out a $100,000 life insurance policy on her. A Killer Among Us presents the true shocking story of Elizabeth's family and their search for justice against the man who continued to play father to the children whose mother he had killed.

Publisher's Summary
Welcome to the latest box set in the New York Times best-selling series of stories about America's most notorious criminals. For DARKEST WATERS, Wall Street Journal best-selling author Katherine Ramsland is the perfect guide to the famous and not so famous cases that still haunt the states huddled around the Great Lakes.
Say hello to Notorious USA!
Dr. Ramsland is one of the best in the business and here she takes readers on a journey through darkness with insight and clarity.
With this box set, the acclaimed crime author set her sights on Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois. Any state that contains a large city will yield many crime stories. Chicago has certainly had its share. With the impact of gangsters, Prohibition, and a few creative serial killers, this city has it all. But murder happens in smaller towns, too, because greed, depravity, and jealousy exist everywhere. Indiana or the "Hoosier State" has its share of serial killers, from pig farmers to nurses to psychopathic businessmen. Indiana also hosted a historic murder that decimated the Midwestern Ku Klux Klan. With Katherine as your guide, you'll meet a kid who watched too much TV, a woman who sent "company" to heaven for her deceased husband, and a cop who fought to clear his name and identify the real killer of his wife and kids.
And much, much more. We've included maps of each state and a photo archive so you can see what these infamous people look like.
Don't miss Bodies of Evidence, Notorious USA's first box set and New York Times best-selling collection about the criminals from my neck of the woods (the Pacific Northwest).

Dinner At The Serial Killer Buffet!
This was fantastic! Wooeeee, I loved it. An *awesome* True Crime sampler - A nice mix of older, newer, and historic crimes. Each murder case covered is roughly 10 minutes or less long, giving you the basic "meat and potatoes" version (gory details included). As a crime buff, I was familiar with maybe half of these stories (very well known), but I loved hearing about them again. I found myself saying "ohhh yeaaa, I remember THAT one" with a slight sense of nostalgia at hearing several that I had almost forgotten about. There was also still quite a lot that were totally new to me as well...so it was the perfect combo! A couple of the stories in particular, I will persue further reading on, THATS for sure. Dang!
This is THE perfect crimer-primer for someone who wants to sit down at the serial killer buffet table, and grab a BIG full plate to chew on. A few of the details mentioned in some of the cases, I *think* may be somewhat off a bit, but that's okay. There was additional new info that I DIDNT previously know about in others, so I'm more than satisfied with my tasty meal. Yessiree.
I wrongly assumed that any sort of "collection" just had to be horrible. But I took a gamble on this one and am SOoo glad that I did. Saw this book was listed for free on Amazon - got it - and then did the "add narration for $1.99" offer (I prefer audio anyway!). With Kevin Pierce narrating, are you kidding me? I couldn't check the yes box any faster. Talk about getting bang for the buck (okay, two bucks)!!! I will never again roll my eyes with disdain at seeing a collection or compilation listed, I swear. Going to look for another one right now in fact. Hahaaa...

dont buy this
You maybe wondering why I gave this book 5 stars and then titled this "dont buy this".... I purchased this book after loving Dangerous Dozen. A great collection of over 20 hours of true crimes. So when I saw the title I said "take my credit" I got about 4 stories in before realizing I'd heard them all before. all this content is in Dangeorus Dozens. Same words same narrator (love Kevin P.) dont buy this. get Danegerous Dozen instead and get more book for your credit

Reader is Great - Some Stories Difficult to Hear
Where does Darkest Waters (True Crime Box Set): Notorious USA rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Probably in the top five
What did you like best about this story?
There is a wide variety of stories here - old, long forgotten murder cases, sensational serial killer cases, and less well-known crimes.
What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?
He's the best - his voice is warm and comforting.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me tear up a few times. There were a few stories that were so gruesome that they were hard to listen to. For example, the case of the Ripper Crew really bothered me. I like true crime because of the mystery that unfolds as you read/listen. But sometimes, the brutality is too much.
Any additional comments?
Great listen for true crime buffs!
