On February 13, 2017, two Indiana teenagers, Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, went for a walk in the woods near the abandoned Monon High Bridge.
They never returned home.
Their bodies were discovered on Valentine's Day morning, sparking a torrent of news coverage and social media speculation that engrossed the attention of people around the world.
A grainy photo of the suspected killer walking across the bridge and a chilling cellphone recording of his voice saying "down the hill" captured the public's attention. Numerous possible suspects were brought to the attention of the authorities but dismissed, leaving everyone wondering who could have committed such a heinous crime.
Author Nic Edwards, host of the wildly popular True Crime Garage podcast, was fascinated by the case and for years conducted his own extensive research and commentary. As such he was able to dissect the investigation that included an extensive list of possible suspects, such as a hatchet-wielding lunatic, a kidnapper with unusual tattoos, a murderous pastor, a rapist, and a father and son catfishing team.
Then in late October 2022, local pharmacy technician Richard Allen was charged with the murders. His arrest raised multiple questions about how he was able to evade law enforcement for so long and what motivated him to commit such a horrific crime.
In The Delphi Murders: The Quest To Find ‘The Man on the Bridge’, Edwards and his best-selling coauthor Brian Whitney (You Have a Very Soft Voice, Susan) provide a detailed account of the investigation from the day the girls’ bodies were found to the events leading up to Allen's arrest, and unique insight into the minds of the killer and those who worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.

A little vanity in the author, which is evident in other true crime detectives as well, and the jumping from one scenario to another was confusing to a certain extent, and the in-depth discussion of his dreams about the murder: seriously? I got the impression that he thinks he’s quite special.
I enjoyed the book but felt I learned very little about the case. The police don’t share clues for a reason; we all like to speculate, but it’s just spitting in the wind most of the time.
I appreciate his devotion though, I have to say that.
Too Much Distraction and Speculation

As a listener of Nic Edwards’ podcast for the past seven years or more, I have come to expect excellence in his writing and research. As a woman aware and wary of evil I have appreciated the reliability and helpful nature of the facts and conversations we are so spoiled to get to access freely each week. Being a resident of SW Ohio, Delphi has been a sickening, nagging mystery that feels far too close to home.
When the murders first happened we could count on our guys to be their thoughtful and resourceful selves. What Nic and the Captain have done through covering this case at all it’s most pivotal moments has been like two older brothers assuring us that justice will come and it’s ok to feel all of your feelings about justice delayed while you wait. They helped us process and use our minds as God intended with the information given.
Before the news of the crimes of Kline and the subsequent arrest of Richard Allen, i often imagined I detected a good deal of frustration and some sadness, maybe even depression in the voices of our hosts. Always resolute and present but just a little war weary. Because of that small weekly dose of impersonal yet truly felt comradely care, I was elated to hear some more life enter the chat after the arrest and even more so at the announcement of this much needed book!
Great job, congratulations, thank you!
This book is generous, full of valuable observations, interesting and mentally satisfying. It is written in Nic’s measured voice that is just enough respect and just enough bald honesty with equal parts intelligence, humility, humor and candor. It rises above the senseless, clanging cymbals and AM static of Delphi coverage as a clear and guiding tone delivering guiding focus and perspective on the investigation as it was, the case as it stands now and the future as it marches towards it’s judgment.
Bravo, my guy!!
