A story sharing with us a family walking through the crisis of one of their daughters dying with cancer

Family walking through grief

The books is written from the younger sister’s perspective as her sister faces cancer. Whew. Tear jerker. But it was still hopeful. It gives you a peek into the sufferings of the whole family, not just the person with the diagnosis. I dislike the narrator’s voices, but she did a good job with the emotion and expression. A hard listen. But if you have any friends or family who are walking through cancer- it is such a worthwhile listen to see suffering up close. And to see suffering when you have faith in God.

Sad but extremely worthwhile

True to life's difficult circumstances and journeys with a good perspective of the roller coaster that can take us on especially as believers… Although the narrator did a good job in her regular voice, both narrating and as the adult characters, I found her children's voices to be artificial, too young sounding for the age of the characters and a little distracting to the story.

This helped me deal with why God allows bad things to happen and how He works through people and situations!!

I loved the way they brought out that bad things happen, but you can see God working throughout the entire process.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would have loved to have gotten the unabridged version but this one still got the story told very well. The more Janette Oke I read I more I want to read. I get a little perturbed at some of the characters occasionally... but they always come around by the end of the book.
This one was a real treat jerker so have you tissues handy. Beautiful story! 👍👍

I appreciate the point of view from the younger sister. We lost a son 15 years ago from injuries sustained in an auto accident. My daughters were younger and dealt with so much during their teenage years. I know it was hard on them. Most people ask how the parents are but fail to think about siblings.

Oh my…

This was a hard book to read. we lost our darling grandson to leukemia on July 11, 2023.

I was so astonished to discover this book in audible. I couldn't wait to listen. This is truly where my mind made the decision to join my hearts love for God. When I understood the blessing of childlike faith. Now things have come full circle with the ability to hear this story now. Janette Oak I am for one truly blessed by your faith and ability to illustrate how trials that seem impossible and events that seem useless only causing pain, are actually God's love.

Be sure to have some tissues handy because get ready to cry. A short sweet book. Definitely gives you perspective from a siblings point of view when it comes to terminal illnesses; a perspective many authors don’t really touch base on.

I love Janette Oke books, I grew up reading Love Comes Softly and the seasons of the heart series. Love the heart she puts into each piece and her love for the Lord shines through the pages and is evident that she loves hers readers enough to share God’s love with them. Reading her books have truly changed my mind about Christian fiction. They are not the typical “christian” books that we so often see, today. Just because you say God or Jesus’ name doesn’t really mean that your book has real meat and meaning. When one adds all the fluff and sexuality in their books makes one question how it got on the Christian Fiction train in the first place?

Reading Mrs. Oke’s books and her daughter collaborations are just so refreshing and beautiful in every particular. I am currently trying to read all of JO’s books and slowly getting there. 😍
