Publisher's summary

No one believes Ilsa is worthy of ruling the Rhine River Kingdom, including Ilsa.

Sure, she wields plenty of mermaid magic and has a winning personality, but responsibility? Not her thing.

So instead of embracing her role as river royalty, Ilsa opts to extend her holiday in the New World. Frolicking with mortals is her M.O. - until she answers a distress call from an endangered species in the waters near Chattanooga. After her close encounter with a motorboat threatens to expose the world of elemental guardians, Ilsa partners with biologist and unlikely ally, Paul Pulaski, to cover her tail.

Worlds collide and sparks ignite between Princess Ilsa and her diamond-in-the-rough mortal, Paul. But can they survive monster hunters, a rival scientist with a grudge, and a dark force that could destroy mortal and elemental alike?

Sexy Scientist Meets Mermaid Princess

While this is the second book in the series, it can be listened to as a standalone. We first met Ilsa in Lorelei's Lyric, but we get to really experience Ilsa as a character since this is her book. At first she comes off as this inconsiderate, spoiled, and immature; she doesn't take her responsibilities as an elemental princess seriously. Throughout the book, we watch Ilsa grow as a character and I became real attached to her as well as Paul. We get some good action scenes with some steamy moments as well as some very suspenseful situations that make this hard to put down. Loved how down to earth Paul was and enjoyed seeing him and Ilsa come closer (mostly) as they worked together. I couldn't believe the suprise we get about Paul! If you're like me and have been searching for a good mermaid standalone/series, this one is an excellent one.

I really enjoy this narrator's performances, there isn't a single one I have heard that is anything less than fantastic. I love that character voices that we previously encountered seemed consistent with the voice they were given in Lorelei's Lyric. Very clear and easy to understand narration, with just enough dramatization to capture this author's writing perfectly and bring this story to life.

Great Second book in the Series!

This is the second book in the Southern Elemental Guardians Series. The first book was great, and this one is even better! I love the characters, the great humor, the storyline. Stefanie Kay did an amazing job with the narration. All characters were easy to distinguish. She has a beautiful voice, and a great male voice.

Fantastic Story and Narration

Another fun and mythical read! I love the mix of romance and lore that this book offers. The characters are well written and wonderfully narrated. You will get so caught up in the telling of the story that it's surprising when it comes to an end. I can't wait to continue this series.

Wonderful narration, great story!

While Crosscurrents works as a stand-alone for Ilsa's love story, I really liked how the events from book 1 had bigger consequences that led to the events of this story arc. It was actually quite suspenseful! And I loved how D.B. Sieders laid the groundwork for many more parts in this series. I'm definitely looking forward to more elemental guardians!

As in book 1, I really enjoyed Stefanie Kay's narration. She has a great array of different voices and accents. It's easy to differentiate between characters and she kept me absolutely captivated.
