Good story

Kind of slow but a satisfyingly good listen. Kind of an old-fashioned novel that is worth sticking with it.

Best book I've listened to in a long time. Loved all the main characters. Hated for it to end.

What a surprise!

What a surprise! I was unfamiliar with the author, but the blurb referred to Grisham and the Southern Literary Tradition, so I thought I’d give it a try! The book is not just a great story, it’s also very well written with passages I want to linger over, AND it’s free from the obligatory political propaganda most contemporary books are laden with. This is one of my favorites reads this year. I’ll definitely look for more Tom Franklin books, and I plan to get this one in hard copy so I can savor the style.

great book. my first Franklin book was Carolina moon set. didn't think it was possible to do something as good. this guy is knocking it out of the park.

Great Mystery/Crime but so much more

I loved everything about this book. A great story with twists and turns that totally made sense. I absolutely loved the reader's voice

Riveting

I loved everything about this book. The characters and plot never grew boring. The southern accents were perfection with none of the annoying drawl used by non-southerners which deliberately implies stupidity.
Tom Franklin wrote an exquisite book and Kevin Kenerly gave a superb narration.

mostly a good read...

the writing was so detailed that I could see everything clearly in my mind's eye... the story though was a little slow and somewhat boring but I liked it anyway... the actor had a really good command of appropriate accent a little whispery that was annoying at times and again I still liked his performance...

Good story

It was a little slow in parts but definitely worth listening to. It made me think of how people judge others and aren’t very accepting and how some people feel such loneliness and isolation.

Don’t give up on this one!

I was three hours into this story, thinking it had underlying racial agendas, and that it wasn’t for me. What a surprise. It is really a cleverly and artfully written story of friendship, intrigue and forgiveness.

The narrator brings the characters to life with his soft Morgan Freemanesque lilt.
